4.0 out of 5 stars beautiful pictures depicting life on Governor's Island
I was expecting more of a documentary type book with lots of pictures of the buildings and surrounding area. Inside this book are close up pictures of different things found throughout the island. A mural here, a chalkboard with writing on it, some little things and then there were some pictures that brought back fond memories of the time I spent on Governor's Island as...

3.0 out of 5 stars A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED!
As a former coast guard brat, we lived on Governor's Island for over seven years.
These were the best times in my adolescence, and I'll never forget them.
When I found this book on the internet my heart started pounding with excitement.
I thought there would be lots of pictures of buildings, old school,PX,and more. The pictures of Castle Williams we're...

I was expecting more of a documentary type book with lots of pictures of the buildings and surrounding area. Inside this book are close up pictures of different things found throughout the island. A mural here, a chalkboard with writing on it, some little things and then there were some pictures that brought back fond memories of the time I spent on Governor's Island as a Coast Guard brat :) like the bowling alley with a Burger King in it... I was living on Governor's Island when they put the Burger King there so yes it's a beautiful book with lots of pictures of 'life' on the island.

As a former coast guard brat, we lived on Governor's Island for over seven years.
These were the best times in my adolescence, and I'll never forget them.
When I found this book on the internet my heart started pounding with excitement.
I thought there would be lots of pictures of buildings, old school,PX,and more. The pictures of Castle Williams we're great,so was the ferry dock.
However, I was sorely displeased when I saw pictures of a wall w/the word narcotics written on it. Also, pictures of a pin-up swimsuit model on a janitor's closet.
And,as far as my old school..PS 26. The only picture they had was of a water fountain. I believe that the photographer's grew lazy and weary after taking a few good pictures, which left me totally disappointed!! If you were a former army,or coast guard brat;this book will probably disappoint you,as it has done to me!
If anyone knows of a good pictorial of GI please let me know, and to the author and photographer's of this book: Shame on you for not giving us an in-depth look at Governor's Island..we could have seen a water fountain,or billboard anywhere!!
