5.0 out of 5 stars Hope is why we survive, where do we find hope?, January 18, 1997
By A Customer
The world today can be a very dismal quagmire of lost dreams, well meaning decisions gone wrong, hurt and disaster, but through all this there is hope. Chuck Smith is the senior pastor at the 30,000 member congregation at Calvary Chapel, in Costa Mesa, California. From this church have grown over 1,000 affiliated churches throughout the world, with membership of over 1,000,000. In his book, "Why Grace Changes Everything," Chuck describes , in his typical down to earth approach, the unmerited gift of God to all who ask, called "Grace." Grace is defined (Biblically) in easily understood terms, and how it applies to each of us, with staight forward explanations. The benefits of "Grace" are incredible, but as Chuck explains, it is free and readily available, yet very misunderstood. This book is easy reading, over a cup of coffee with friends, next to a fire place on a rainy day, or on your lunch hour (the respite from a hectic day). It reveals something needed by all, but does not require a Mastercard or Visa. It can be read by teens, with peer pressures, married couples on the brink of divorce, men and women in the twilight of their lives, it will bring hope and contentment to all. There is someone who loves us and cares for us, inspite of what we do, inspite of who or what we are, and He has a gift for you and me, it's free, it's "Grace." The best, and most needful reading experience you can have, "Why Grace Changes Everything," By Chuck Smith.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of My Favorite Christian Books, May 28, 2007
By
I recently purchased 3 copies of this book to give to friends as it is one of my favorites. I plan to buy more and have read my hardbound copy many times. Pastor Smith has a very readable writing style that is not pedantic at all. He explains his own struggles with legalism before he came into a full understanding of God's grace. It is Biblically-based and easy to understand. A good introduction to Christianity for your nonbelieving friends; one of my nonChristian friends read the entire book.

What I particularly love about this book is how it speaks to your heart. This is not a religious tome, but one man speaking to you about God's love and grace. However, he represents the full personality of God, for a person cannot comprehend God's great mercy without understanding our need for redemption.

We should always pray before reading spiritual messages, but if you believe you are struggling with legalism, this book will help free you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent eye opener on the subject of grace., August 17, 1999
By A Customer
I have been in counseling for a few months because of struggling with past hurts. I borrowed this book from a friend and it came at just the right time. I was amazed that God loved me unconditionally. I had always been taught that if you "lived right" the Lord would love you. Amazingly enough He loves me even when I mess up. I am very disappointed that the book is out of print. I wanted my very own copy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful vision of grace!, February 19, 2008
This is literally one of the best books I have ever read on grace. Smith demonstrates a living knowledge of what it means to depend on God in the simple faith that comes with empty hands. You will feel yourself convicted on your own legalism repeatedly as you read. Get ready for a refreshing renewal in your relationship with God. Not soft. Just real.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for Christians today, October 4, 2008
A clearer understanding of what God's grace can do. No longer do we need to struggle with "works" or "legalism" from a religious standpoint. Our Lord has done the work and provided the key to our freedom in Christ. I used this book for bible college and as a gift. It is an easy read and should be a part of every Christian's library!

Grace that is greater than all our sin. God's grace is clearly portrayed in an easy to understand way in this book. My mom read this and started telling everyone to read it, because it magnifies the Lord's love for us. Grace will free you from the bondage of religion, and it will lead you into the light, as He is in the light. Please read this!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's all about grace, March 3, 2009
Pastor Chuck Smith has done such an amazing job covering this topic of grace. On pg 22 he states, "Grace is God giving to me something that I cannot obtain on my own. Grace is being accepted by God even though I do not deserve it, even though I am not worthy of it.

The Bible teaches that I receive grace on the basis of my belief and trust in God. Hebrews 11:6 declares that 'without faith it is impossible to please God.' We are forgiven by a holy God simply by believing in Jesus Christ and His death on our behalf. When we place our trust in Him, our slate is wiped clean."

I am so thankful that my salvation is not based on my righteousness. I'd be in big trouble. I am thankful that it is just based on the faithfulness of God and my belief in Jesus' death on the cross for me.

This book does such a great job clearly explaining God's grace. I recommend it to everyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you understand grace, you'll understand peace, February 18, 2009
By
Ezra (California) - See all my reviews
I'm a teacher and I bought this book for my 3rd-grade class--realizing if they could understand the concept of grace, they would grow up to have peace in their lives.

What this book teaches is God's grace in a person's life. You can't earn it. Work for it. Or buy it. Grace is like a peach that naturally ripens on a tree. It doesn't work or strive to ripen, it just hangs on the branch.

That's God's grace in your life. Abiding in the Vine (Jesus Christ). God has given you one responsibility: just believe in Him. He'll take care of all the rest. I learned from this book that grace replaces any kind of attitude that I have to earn God's love in any way. I just have to trust Him.

By the way, the kids loved it! And so will you. It's true. Once you understand God's grace it changes your perspective about religion. Because knowing God isn't a religion. It's a relationship.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic book with a great message, April 9, 2011
This book has been around for a while but it is simply amazing. We live in a world of hate and sin and struggle to get through times. But, as believers in the Lord, we have an assurance of forgiveness. The Lord has such grace towards us... it is so comforting to know that. Chuck Smith really hits home with this one. With encouraging and loving words, he explains to us the grace and love Christ has towards us despite our sinful natures. I love this book and will for sure be reading this over and over again.
