2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth reading February 20, 2013

The author is trying to portray a broken marriage and ultimately its healing through Christ, but it just falls flat. It's awkwardly written - the dialogue is unnatural, and often it seems as though there's a paragraph or two missing (like the author knew what she wanted to convey and hurriedly wrote it out, but then never proofed it). There was at least incorrect verb tense on virtually every page*, and annoying inconsistencies in formatting (paragraph breaks, quotation marks, commas). The characters really didn't make sense, either - Maggie is trying to avoid the doctor at the supermarket, yet sits down and has a complete transformation after a brief (and very clinical) discussion with him? And when she's talking to her husband (who is in the process of packing up to move out, NOT trying to talk with her) he tells her that he's rediscovered His love for the Lord and his family? And then there's their son, Steven, who apparently is loner with few friends - the author repeats this fact several times, but never goes anywhere with it; I did find it a bit ludicrous that Maggie greets her 17 YO at the kitchen table with, "How is mommy's big man" (Location 136) This would perhaps make a decent novel with a LOT more careful character development, but just doesn't work as a short story. Managed to read it through once, and it's being deleted from my library.

*A few examples: "...She had not notice the broken glass on the floor." (location 28)
"It was at that very moment Maggie stop being nervous because she then realized that no matter what happens..." (location 74)
"Let me asked you a question" (Location 226)

The story is good, but it is filled with grammatical errors that makes it difficult to read. It is also extremely short.
