Biography

It's a shame we'll never know how good Jeff Buckley could have been, but the indications are that, up to his death in 1997, he was set to shine.

His credentials were promising, he was the son of Tim Buckley, though he had barely met him, and his mother and stepfather were musical, encouraging his interests to the point that, at 12, he had decided to become a musician. After attending a one year… Read more in Amazon's Jeff Buckley Store

4.0 out of 5 stars A note to Columbia records., May 15, 2001
This review is from: Grace E.P. (Audio CD)
The live versions of "Grace" and "Mojo Pin" sound just like the versions on "Mystery White Boy", and they probably are the same ones since they were recorded from the same tour. Nothing new there. But the version of "Hallelujah" here is not like the original, and it's even more beautiful here than the album version. Jeff improvises new lyrics at the end and it takes a turn or two. Buy it only for this song. I wish Columbia would dig into their vaults and release some songs we haven't heard before (and there are MANY ...). I will buy anything Jeff Buckley ever recorded, and I'm sure his other fans will, too, but we really don't need 50 versions of each song from "Grace" when there are countless other songs that we've never even heard.

5.0 out of 5 stars True Grace, June 10, 2000
This review is from: Grace E.P. (Audio CD)
This Grace ep contrasts Jeffs live performances against his album "Grace". It is a must buy for any Jeff Buckley fan and anyone who likes good music!

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth getting for the completist, but not in this form, November 29, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Grace E.P. (Audio CD)
This is a pretty good single, featuring "Grace" from the album GRACE, the recording of "Grace" from the MYSTERY WHITE BOY album, and great recordings of "Mojo Pin" and "Hallelujah" from the same show as "Grace." Since these three songs were recorded and released very late in the tours supporting GRACE (in 1996, long after Jeff wanted to stop and begin preliminary work on his second, never-to-be-completed album), they are not exactly typical performances; one hears Jeff stretching out and trying to continually perform these songs in new ways. "Mojo Pin" is more hallucinatory and truncates the end of the song, and "Hallelujah" sounds as if it was recorded on a very cold, sad night. It has an amazing ending though, and is ultimately as life-affirming as each of the other recordings. Having three songs from the same show together also illuminates the direction towards which Jeff was heading towards the end of his live career. Very cool and very worth picking up. However, this single has just been rereleased internationally as part of the GRACE EPS box set, in which you can get this (with a bonus track!) and four other difficult to find singles with various live rarities and the few B-sides Jeff actually recorded. It's a better deal, and it has more material. As long as that is in print, there's really no reason to buy this exact item per se.
