A Fun CD,
By
This review is from: Grace Period (Audio CD)
'Grace Period' combines solid Christian lyrics with the sounds of well known songs to make a very fun package. For those who are unfamiliar with them, this group parodies songs in popular music from various genres and does it with Christian lyrics. The songs generally have Scriptural references for the listener to review. Oftentimes they sound very much like the original except the words. This particular CD parodies songs from artists as diverse as The Beach Boys, The Village People, Simon and Garfunkel, Nickelback, and Bruce Springsteen. There are several very good songs on this album. Many are very funny. All of them have a sound message. Among my favorites on this CD are revised versions of the following songs: 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia' by The Charlie Daniels Band, 'Drops of Jupiter' by Train, 'Follow Me' by Uncle Kracker, 'Renegade' by Styx, and The Who's 'My Generation'. If you have not heard anything by Apologetix, you are missing something very good. I recommend it.

Apologetix "Grace Period" is my favorite album to date. Granted, I'm still building my collection, I only found out about this band about a year and a half ago. This has more of my favorites than the others, you know, the songs I grew up with, the songs that are familiar to me. Among my favorites on this album:"Corinthians" (Parody of "In the End" by Linken Park) "Cornelius" (Parody of "Cecilia" by Simon and Garfunkel) "I'm a Receiver" (Parody of I'm a Believer" by the Monkees and Smash Mouth "YHWH" (Parody of "YMCA" by the Village People) "Devil Went Down to Jordan" (Parody of "Devil Went Down to Georgia" by The Charlie Daniels Band "Drop of Lucifer" (Parody of "Drops of Jupiter" by Train "Born Above" (Parody of "Born to Run" by Bruce Springsteen) "Follow Me" (Parody of "Follow Me" by Uncle Kracker "Don't Fear the People" (Parody of "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult "Lemonade" (Parody of "Renegade" by Styx) "How You Rewind Me" (Parody of "How You Remind Me" by Nickelback) "Regeneration" (Parody of "My Generation" by the Who) "Love the Jews" (Parody of "Love Me Do" by the Beatles) "Baa! We're Lambs! (Parody of "Barbara Ann" by the Beach Boys) The remaining songs on this album were really good too and I recognized most of them from the radio, I was just more familiar with the songs listed above. These guys sound like the real original bands that they parody. I would love to see a music video or a "behind the scenes" on "The Devil Went Down to Jordan"--whoever played the fiddle on that one has some serious skills!
