5.0 out of 5 stars The Gospel, May 28, 2001

This review is from: Grace the Power to Change (Paperback)
I have been searching for the truth now with all that I am for several years, and I believe that this book comes the closest I've found so far to presenting a totally scriptural Gospel, that is neither based on "cheap grace" or a legalistic grace negating self-righteousness. This book is very intensive on the Word, with few anecdotes, or personal notes, and its aim is to get you to fully believe and trust God's grace in every area of your life, and believe that that grace will change you and empower you to live the Christian life you've wanted to live since you got saved but couldn't. God bless your search for Him and His Kingdom!!

5.0 out of 5 stars From mediocre Christianity to High Definition living, February 16, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My life I would say has literally changed after reading this book. One time reading is not enough. We need to sit with this book and the Bible and go hand in hand.

I have stopped laboring for God after I read it. Now I am at peace and rest. Because Christ has completed the work. I don't have to conquer any sins anymore, because he accomplished his mission on the cross. All I have to do is to say to myself Christ has finished the work. He has stripped Satan of all his powers and gained victory. Even death couldn't defeat him. Now I have the same victory too, where all evil is under my feet through Christ. As the book says where man's strength ends, God's strength begins.

MUST READ!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tired of performing for God?, November 29, 1999
This review is from: Grace the Power to Change (Paperback)
In this book, Jim Richards graphically spells out the message of God's uncondtional love and acceptance of mankind... not just the believer. This book is challenging and insightful into tearing down the myths of legalism and right standing with God. Grace is God's ability and power to change... And in this book, Dr. Richards helps the reader understand, perhaps for the first time, how to truly make God's grace come alive in our everyday life. A must read for anyone searching for the truth about the nature of God!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book, December 28, 2002
This is the best book I have ever read second only to the Bible. I couldn't put it down. Dr. Richards explained so many things that had been frustrating me in my relationship with God. This book goes directly against much of the religious and traditional teaching of the church that is keeping people from experiencing a real relationship with God. My life will literally never be the same. WOW!

I had asked God if I would live and die and not really understand grace, and then I found this book. This author explains grace so you get it. In fact, read anything you can get your hands on by this man, and you won't be sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life-changing book for sure!, June 20, 2011

This book charts into new territory for the church of this generation, as it tackles the issue of righteousness. Coming from a religious background, I struggled with anything that seemed "lukewarm" to me, but as I kept reading this book gave my old religious mentality a run for it's money. The message of grace is not one of a lukewarm gospel, but rather the gospel that Paul preached. If you want my attention on spiritual matters, you have to back yourself with scripture, and this book does a fine job. I consider myself a holiness believer, but I believe much of what is taught in the church as holiness is nothing more than religious performance and self-righteousness. The grace message is geared toward holiness, but it's path is much different than you might think. It does us no good to "behave" out of fear of God punishing us; that is not at all what God wants to do in our lives. He wants to uproot sin from our hearts, so even without fear of God punishing us, we will desire the things He desires... thus producing the FRUIT of holiness from a pure heart that has been transformed by His love and GRACE! Today, I am convinced that God's heart is not geared toward behavioral modification and outward conformity (found in most holiness churches today), but rather heart transformation, which produces the fruit of the Spirit called holiness. Holiness should be a FRUIT not a means to our relationship with God.

Jesus told those who believed on Him that if they continue in His Word, they will know the truth and the truth will set them free (from the power of sin). This tells us that the key to uprooting the power of sin in our lives is a knowledge piece, NOT how well our flesh can walk away from and continue to resist sin. I think it was Paul who told us that the goodness of God leads us to repentance. Repentance is NOT merely walking away from sin and not doing it again, true repentance requires heart transformation, and that can only be obtained through the message of grace and a revelation of God's heart and love toward you.

This book, along with Destined to Reign by Joseph Prince are two books that will shake up your religious strongholds and challenge the way you see righteousness and perceive your relationship with God. Both of these books point to the CROSS, not our performance, thus glorifying Jesus and leading us to true and genuine heart transformation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book- Very encouredging!!! A must-read!, August 25, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My Dad likes this book so much that he had me order 25 copies for him recently! (No kidding!) The book focuses on encouraging you to let go of the cares, guilt, responsibility, pain, and day to day pressure that so commonly accompany the Christian walk by acknowledging and accepting the true nature of what Jesus did on the cross. The book is a guideline for becoming TRULY FREE! I could talk about this book for a long time but I do not want to spoil it for anyone. It is one of the books that you can read over and over because it is so simple yet profound in its implications. I would especially recommend it as a gift to a new christian or a guidebook for anyone who feels frustrated with their walk with the Lord and unable to more forward. This book will keep you focused on what is really important and will continually take you back to that place in your heart where you first said "YES!" to God. In continually revisiting grace- both the book and the blessing of the real thing- My family and I have experienced a true increase in joy and peace in our lives.

Get ready for a new more full walk with the lord!
