5.0 out of 5 stars Dont Give Up till you Read This!
I'm so inconsistant!
I'm so tired of trying!
Why does this seems so hard?
Where is this peace and joy I hear about?
I seem to take two steps forward and four steps backward!
Does God really like me?
If I am saved by grace why am I striving so hard?
It seems something isn't right.
Either the Bible's wrong or what I'm being...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good information, but drawn out a bit
This book has a wonderful message, very biblical. It really helped me to understand God's grace and I think it's a great book especially for newer Christians and anyone who has been raised in a "works based" religion. This book is written with God's perspective as the author understands it from what the Bible says. We live in a works based society in general and it's...

If the above statements resemble your Christian walk, you're ready for a transformation, and "Grace Walk" is just what the Good Doctor ordered. Read, then let it sit and soak into your soul. Dr. Steve McVey has brought much needed alignment to todays church. Every Christian should read this to maintain balance in a culture, both inside and outside the church, which worships effort, duty, and production. It isn't meant to be like this. Relationship with Jesus is how Jesus defined eternal life (John 17:3) and relationship is why Christ provided atonement, clearing the way. Do yourself a big favor and read this book, you'll be glad you did.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Encouragement to Live By Grace Instead of Rules., May 13, 2004
McVey has written an excellent book challenging the Christian to live in the power of God's grace instead of fleshly self-sufficiency.

Among the excellent points covered include:

1. God's view of success differs from the world's view.
2. Definition of the flesh. Before God will work in and through us, we must stop relying on fleshly self-confidence.
3. The futility of trying to live the Christian life in fleshy self-effort.
4. Our relationship with Jesus Christ is based on grace, not rules and regulations. Church activity without Jesus is powerless.
5. The exchanged life vs. the flesh life and promises God gives us for victorious living.
6. Reasons to live based on a relationship with Jesus instead of Christian values.
7. Evangelism based on grace is the overflow of a joyous relationship with Jesus Christ.
8. Grace is characterized by calm confidence in God's sovereignty, timing, and methods.

While God's grace is the dominant theme in this book, the author does not excuse liberty at the expense of being a positive witness.

Read and be encouraged to let God be your life instead of you trying to live the Christian life. There is a difference!

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful message for all!, June 11, 2005

What happens if what you are doing in your life doesn't seem to be working for you now - and you feel that by your own standards you are failing? What if you are a pastor or layperson doing church work, and the programs and promotions are not working? What if you work extra hard to make it work, at the expense of your family? What happens when you don't like the person that you are becoming?

You discover something that was always there waiting for you, but seldom taught: "As you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in Him." We are saved by grace, so we should walk by grace. But few Christians have heard or understood that message.

Grace Walk is an encouraging book that brings hope to the heart of every follower of Christ who constantly feels that he or she either doesn't measure up - or will never measure up.

Grace Walk is a book that shows us how to read the Bible for revelation, not information. It is a book that helps us to understand why it is impossible to live for Christ, but very possible to have Him live in and through us. It teaches us how to come to the place where we have the desire to pray, read the word, and fast. It teaches us that we should not do them, just because we ought to, or because we hope that it will win God's favor, or we want Him to know that we are trying hard to live for Him - but rather because we want to - because we want communion with Him.

If all this has you scratching your head and thinking that this sounds like a book that will take too much thinking, then think again. For the Christian who feels that he or she is constantly falling short of what God really wants or expects, it is a must read that will bring relief, release, and joy as we understand God's perspective.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most significant works on the Christian life ever, July 22, 1999
By A Customer
The idea that God doesn't call us to do what we are able to do, but places our calling just beyond our own self-sufficiency so that "no flesh should glory in His presence" is a truth McVey has discovered. That we need not ask God for strength, but instead let Him perfect His own strength through our weakness is not something we have not read in the Bible. It is there! We simply read over it and never realize what it is saying. For too long, too many Christians have sung "Christ is all I need" but lived "I did it my way." This important book is as clear and understandable as anything written any where about the principle of Christ living His life through the believer. I tell my seminary students it is a must read, in fact it is an assignment which requires a book review. To me it is essential that tomorrows Christian leaders understand clearly that the "abundant life" is nothing less than the sufficiency of Christ. It is life. Grace Walk makes clear the truth that Jesus Christ did not come to earth to make bad people good, but to make dead people live. Thank God for Dr. McVey and for the wonderful blessing this book has been and will be to untold thousands.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'll never be the same., March 2, 2007
This review is from: Grace Walk: What You've Always Wanted in the Christian Life (Paperback)
This book is profoundly life-changing. I've been a believer for 23 years, and after what seems like a lifetime of "serving" Christ, Jesus has finally taught me to rest. I was weary, confused, and didn't know why things never worked out for me...and then I read this book. Now, it's not I who live, but Christ who lives in me. I don't live for Christ, but instead He *is* my life. This book will dispel the lie that 90% of devout Christians believe about their life in Christ. You only have one nature! Buy the book. Just do it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hope for the hopeless (and hopeful!) ..., May 22, 1999
By A Customer
At the time that my church offered this book, I was in fervent prayer that God reveal to me the answers of another failed relationship I had been partnered in. I had begun taking assessments of every aspect of my actions! I read many different titles dealing with relationships. Brother Steve McVey's "Grace Walk" was NOT the answer I had anticipated. But I chose to pick up this book and quickly looked it over. Since the book's back cover states that, "Nothing you have ever done, nothing you could ever do, will match the incomparable joy of letting Jesus live His life through you." and feeling that I had sincerely done MY best to see the relationship succeed, I went home and began to eagerly devour the pages to find a sense of "self-righteousness" along with "self-preservation" with regards to my abilities while involved with my "ex". What I found was an easy to read and easy to comprehend source of information that EXPOSED the exact problems that "I" have struggled with for so many "Christ-served" years. OUCH!! I was confident that I had learned the proper "love-languages" necessary for success in the relationship, and spoke them with great ease! (Maybe too much ease, as you will see!) For this behavior gave way to what is described in the book as "An Attitude of Independence." A self-serving style of thinking that gave birth to specific sins in my life! I became overwhelmed with a "service approach" to the relationship and became delusional in believing that "I" was the one who controlled the continuation of the partnership, solely by my service to her. I asked myself afterwards, "How could this have turned "south" if I was serving her needs to the letter?" Simply put, I had forgotten the One who had brought us together in the first place! Although I was taking an active role in deeds to Him, and I was being the Christian I "thought" I was supposed to be, I STILL felt like a failure! After reading this book, my eyes have been opened to the realization that the success or failure in everything I choose to be a part of is ALWAYS in His hands and NEVER in mine! And now as I allow Christ to live "through" me, He is giving me victories that make all previous accomplishments seem mediocre in comparison! Thank you Brother McVey, for being in a place that allowed God to use you to minister to the cries for exposure and resolution within my heart! And YES, I highly recommend it to anyone who is struggling with the emptiness associated with "serving" the needs of other's! Peace!

5.0 out of 5 stars Too many Christians are trapped by self imposed rules., January 27, 1999
What can I do for God today? How can I make God proud of me? I am going to spend my life doing God's work. I do hereby resolve to ___________! (Fill in the blanks with anything religious.)

Steve McVey shows us from scripture the futility of trying to 'work' for God. Spinning our wheels for the Lord leads to burn-out and depression. Instead, Steve would have us simply enjoy a deep relationship with God. This relationship is sustained and maintained by God Himself! The Christ-life is not our responsibility. It is all the result of God's grace.

Easy to read and understand. The truths in this book will revitalize the life of any Christian who reads it.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Book is a MUST Read for All Christians, October 26, 2006
This review is from: Grace Walk: What You've Always Wanted in the Christian Life (Paperback)
I've always wondered about this thing called GRACE, and how God's grace really changes the way a believer lives. I now know the full meaning of grace and have been changed forever by it. I have no doubt that Steve McVey was given divine insight into grace and all that it encompasses. Every chapter I read seemed to describe my walk with Christ... a defeating and cyclical walk of striving, some success, some failure, condemnation and re-dedication. Before I read this book, the person who suggested I get it commended me on my desire to live for God and know His will for my life. He also told me that I would always feel defeated until I stopped trying to live for God and just simply learned how to rest in Him. That's what this book is all about. Do you want to stop trying to live the Christian life and simply learn how to abide in Christ? Then buy this book. Your life, your walk with Jesus, your understanding of the Bible and who Christ is... it will ALL be changed forever!

5.0 out of 5 stars McVey clearly explains what every Christian must know!, June 7, 1999
By
This book changed my life! In plain language McVey hits the place where the Christian's focus is supposed to be. Often, churches never talk about grace in such an easily understood way. If you struggle with inconsistency, mediocrity, frustrations, and questions of why the "Christian Life" as you know it doesn't work - buy this book! Understanding grace is the key to freedom from legalism and grace is the key to living the Christian Life (that does work) as Christ intended. God Bless!
