Really interesting CD! Has a lot of different sounds on it. Note that the DVD isn't formatted for U.S. players.

I have had this album in my cd player for over a month and I can't bring myself to switch it out. I'm slightly obessed with Mr. Doherty and his music. I'm quite sure he's never written a bad song. I am the Rain is stuck in my head at the moment, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I look forward to Broken Love Song cause it reminds me of Black Heart Procession. For a while I thought Palace of Bones was about dinosaur bones, and since I love dinosaurs I was stoked on this. Knowing the real lyrics now, I still think the song is excellent. This album is fun and educational - I looked up Salome, interesting stuff. All in all if you like The Libertines or Babyshambles you'll like this album.

I've always been a fan of Doherty's music, but this was a very pleasant surprise. The music is thought provoking and beautifully written. I listened to this album on a long stay in Paris and kept it on a loop for almost the entire the trip. So, I'm not sure if the setting is creating a bias in my review, but I think its a beautiful, poetic piece of artwork that is a great surprise coming from today's music scene. The music will stick with you long after the first listening.

I knew when I pre ordered this album not to rush to judgement or expect anything like the Libertines or Babyshambles. What Pete has done is crafted some brilliant acoustic bluesy music (my opinion). I ordered the cd/dvd edition since the track listing isn't listed on amazon we are treated to 12 songs
1. Arcady 2. Last of the English Rosess 3. 1939 returning 4. A little death around the eyes 5. Salome 6. I am the rain 7. The sweet by and by 8. Palace of bone 9. Sheepskin tearaway 10. Broken love song 11. New love grows on tree 12. Lady don't fall backwards The bonus dvd contains the following and is compatable with NTSC US dvd players 1. Interview acoustic performances of 4 songs 1. Salome 2. New love grows on tree 3. Through the looking glass (not featured on the album) 4. Lady don't fall backwards I seriously can not wait for a follow up album from this talented musican. Considering all the stuff Pete has been through the past few years he didn't fail to deliver (at least in my eyes) Pete please do another album soon. |
