GREAT DUTCH MELODEATH,
By Mud Bog "King Kloy" (Cary, NC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Graceful...yet Forbidding (Audio CD)
I first heard CC on a comp cd released by Lifeless Records (put out Shadows Fall's debut) w/ the song Beyond... and was instantly hooked. Though it was catchy as hell off the bat, there was something else that really made me like it that I couldn't put my finger on until I bought the cd and my suspiscions were confirmed. Berthus Westherhaus, producer of God Dethroned's MIGHTY Bloody Blasphemy album worked w/ these Dutch melodic Death Metallers as well, giving GYF a killer guitar sound. Henri The Serpent King Sattler even guests on track 4.
Money riffs and great solos abound, this album while not listened to often it is a treat and hasn't gotten old in the more than 5 years iv had it. Not being familiar w/ their other albums, I can't compare it to the rest (this I believe was their last before joining Metal Blade Rec) but I can say I like it more than most albums in the genre. Particularly since the genre is now saturated and Gothenburg clones abound these days, this for me hearkens back to a time when the majority of bands that revolutionized extrem metal in the mid-late 90s were peaking or beginning their descents into, how can I put this... "meh". |
