Intense and unpredictable, GRACELAND is the story of family man Marlon Villar, the longtime chauffeur of Manuel Chango a corrupt Filipino politician. One afternoon, while he and his daughter accompany the politician’s daughter home, their car is ambushed in a kidnapping attempt. During the confusion of the ambush, the kidnapping goes horribly wrong and the wrong girl is taken and held for ransom. Marlon is determined to save his daughter, but between the conflicting motives of the kidnappers and Chango, Marlon is forced into a terrible downward spiral. As events unfold, Marlon, Chango, and their families are forced into a game of deceit and betrayal that will leave no one innocent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Watch this movie!!! June 5, 2014
    Format:Blu-ray
I am writing this to negate the absent minded review at the bottom. Don't give a movie 1 star because it has subtitles!! What kind of sense does that make??? This is an incredible film that was not "made with subtitles". Subtitles were added so an English speaking audience could enjoy it! Not so people can bash the filmakers!! If you don't like subtitles why did you buy a foreign film?!!!! That review should be eliminated from amazon. The product description DOES say that the movie has English subtitles! It's just not fair to respond negatively when the viewer has not ACTUALLY viewed the movie! "We don't care for subtitles" Never heard such an ignorant comment in my life. THE CONTENT OF THE MOVIE IS WHAT MATTERS!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Filipino Movie April 21, 2013

Not your typical Filipino Movie. Not Corny, and there was actually a plot that you needed to pay attention to. There are some disturbing truths in the movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars very good effort with a fascinating premise and plot. December 12, 2013
    Format:Blu-ray
A very good effort with a fascinating premise and plot. It has the look and feel of almost reality.

We root for the poor put-upon hero who must struggle against incomprehensible odds and who also manages to retain his dignity. Unfortunately, he is not smart, and is naive. Just a plain person trying to get along who gets pulled into someone else's nightmare. Everyone suffers, and nobody wins.

Ah! But there is a surprise at the ending!

    See it! :)

This is a brilliant psychological thriller delving into life in a country that most Americans rarely see. It has all of the making of a blockbuster (action, intrigue, sex, corruption in high levels, etc.) without the pricetag of a big-budget movie. Most Americans will probably be turned off by actually having to read subtitles (its in Tagalog with English subtitles), if you have the patience you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprise of the year! July 18, 2013
    By Dub O
    Format:DVD
Graceland is the best film I've seen this year. Completely unexpected - it's a brutally honest look at the realities of life in today's Philippines. Not to mention a testament to what truly talented, resourceful filmmakers can do with a limited budget and a great script. Don't miss this great thriller!

5.0 out of 5 stars Taut Intense Low- Budget Film From The Philippines August 22, 2013
    Format:Amazon Instant Video
A very hauntingly realistic look at corruption and the underside of life in the Philippines , Graceland is not for the weak stomached. Without giving too much of the plot away - the driver for a corrupt politician is the victim of a double kidnapping and is drawn into a tense set of negotiations and encounters with the kidnappers and the ugly side of child sex trafficking as he desperately tries to rescue his daughter.
The film is shot on location and the actors are all superb even though I had never heard of any of them before viewing this. The film has English subtitles and is mostly spoken it Tagolog with a sprinkling of English thrown in.
While no lighthearted entertainment this is a film that has an incredible dark edge to it and kept me glued to the screen for it's full length. One of those rare foreign films that have the ability to kick you in the gut and stay with you for a while.
