2.0 out of 5 stars not for active babies
We love the simple wood look, but this did not work for our baby. First, the plastic tray does not lock or latch on, so our child would take it off within one minute and toss it over the side. So then, the wood tray is harder to clean. Second, I highly recommend getting a high chair with a five point harness system instead of just the three point. Our baby leans so...

Our baby leans so far over to the side that I worry he could fall out of the straps. Also, the straps are only connected to the cushion, not the chair.

We love this chair, it was a replacement for something smaller. Assembly was fairly quick, it is sturdy and looks good, works great for our one year old. Some reviewers noted that it is difficult to clean. We found the cushion easy to wash, but it did make it harder to clean the chair. We stopped using it, and the chair works fine, our daughter seems just as comfortable and cleaning is easier. A few people complained about the placement of the bar between the legs, as if it left too small a sitting area inside the chair. Maybe the design has changed, but there was no problem on the chair we have. If the chair was wide enough, I could probably fit behind the bar, and I'm a pretty big guy. The tray is easy to remove and put on, but stays firmly in place. Our daughter did figure out how to lift the plastic cover, sometimes we use masking tape to hold it down (not very elegant, but we've made a lot of compromises on elegance in the past year), sometimes we use just the wooden tray without the cover. Overall, we've been very happy with the chair.

3.0 out of 5 stars nice but.., August 2, 2010
This review is from: Graco Classic Wood Highchair (Baby Product)
has lasted through 2 babies. Nice looking but very hard to clean due to all the nooks on the side that collect food. The removable liner does not easily wipe down and it absorbs the food and stains. To get it liner clean you have to toss in the washer basically everyday. Nice it comes with the plastic tray.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Chair with a Flaws, September 20, 2010
This review is from: Graco Classic Wood Highchair (Baby Product)
I received this highchair as a shower gift 17 months ago. It was easy to assemble (we actually waited to assemble until my son was 5-6 months and I managed to do so by myself with my son in an hour or two). We have used it hard and it has held up well overall. If I were purchasing another, I would reconsider my purchase but I have liked the chair a lot.

Pros: Sturdy, well-built, easy to clean, removable plastic tray cover is great, looks nice, the chair cover is easy to wash both by hand and in the washer

Cons:

1)The wooden tray is heavy; I dropped it on my toe one day- resulting in a nearly broken toe and the loss of the nail. This was my fault, of course, but a regular plastic tray would not have done as much damage.
2) My dog likes to put her paws up on the second step and she has scratched the wood finish. The wood is easily scratched/marked.
3) At 17 months my son now likes to climb and the rungs on this chair are perfect for climbing. The chair is sturdy but this is very dangerous, of course- I have to turn the chair around when he is done or push it in to the table. He is still able to move it or climb up the back of the chair but it is better turned around.
4) The back does not recline for infants and it sits the baby up very upright. We did not use it much until he was older because of this. We fed him in a baby seat until his head /back were stronger.

Overall, not a bad chair if you really want a good study wooden chair - just be aware that there are drawbacks.

Hate the big plastic highchairs. This is a great alternative - a nice piece of actual furniture, very solid and sturdy. Love the plastic cover on the tray and the color of the wood. Very happy with this purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love love love this chair!!!!!, August 2, 2011
This review is from: Graco Classic Wood Highchair (Baby Product)
I received this chair for my baby shower back in 2010. I didn't want an ugly bulky plastic chair in my dining area/ I wanted something that would match my dining table and this chair did just that!!!! WE started using it when our baby was only 6 months old and she is now 16 months old and she still loves it!!! She eats so well when she is in the chair. The crotch bar has not been a problem for us at all...I actually like it because it keeps our daughter from slouching down and tryign to slide out. The cushion washes up very easily both in the washing machine and by hand! I love this highchair and would recommend it to everyone!!! It is beautiful and my daughter loves it!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Comfort with Style, July 6, 2011
By
This review is from: Graco Classic Wood Highchair (Baby Product)
We chose this chair, because we did not want a plastic monster in the dining room. And it works well. It is sturdy and apparently comfortable (for the duration of the meal that is). It is true what another reviewer said that the design of the arm rests on the side render them somewhat hard to clean. Contrary to what other reviewers said, the harness is supposed to be wrapped around the lower back of the chair and the plastic tray locks firmly into place. Our toddler has figured out to open and undo many things, but lifting the tray he only could while we still had a kitchen towel underneath (because than it does not lock, of course). The downsides of this chair are that I wish they had replacement cushions and trays. A second pair of cushions would be nice to have for the time the first one is in the laundry (although you can wipe the cushions fairly easily they do get stained to the degree only a wash cycle can undo).

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful chair, June 8, 2011
This review is from: Graco Classic Wood Highchair (Baby Product)
Overall, it's a classy chair that has served its purpose to look nice in our home and allow our children to enjoy meals with us. We have an open floor plan and I didn't want our house to look like a playroom by having a huge plastic chair with some crazy design all over it.

This chair has been through 2 girls of different sizes and has been superb. My children have never removed the tray and nothing has ever fallen apart. When my oldest got too big for the chair, we merely removed the cushion and it lasted until she was ready to sit at the table. The cushion stays clean through spaghetti dinners and looks brand new after I wash it in the washing machine, which is only every 1-2 months. It does take a little time to clean in the narrow areas, but I think any high chair where children are learning to feed themselves would have that problem. The only thing I would suggest changing is to have a 1 latch system that allows the tray to be removed with one hand.

I would recommend this chair to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great usability and stability - would buy again without hesitation, May 28, 2011

Very stable and sturdy, functional, and attractive (if you care about that). If you are drawn to 'stylish' chairs like the Stokke Tripp Trapp (and who isn't -- they look cool) I suggest you consider this chair because the usability is superior (this is a huge benefit that new parents may not consider). You can put your kid in the Graco Classic quickly without having to deal with the harness every time - the movable tray locks the kid in tight. The relatively large footprint means high stability. If your kid likes to rock in the chair like mine does, this one won't tip. I wouldn't consider a lighter plastic chair or the Stokke for this reason alone.

My 16 month old has used this for 8 months, and it's such a central part of our daily lives, that I can say I love the chair, and think others would be very satisfied as well. I would definitely buy again. It's effectively become the dining table for all of us. As an added feature the lower wood bar is a nice footrest for the person doing the feeding.

- The removable plastic tray is very convenient and easy to clean. The cup holder has turned into a nice feature -- taught our kid to place unwanted food in the hole rather than on the floor.
- Harness is permanently attached to the wood chair - NOT just to the seat cover as others have suggested.
- Safety label printed on inside of one leg is not removable, but tasteful and not an annoyance (disclosure: I'm the sort of person who removes labels from everything). There is a 'Graco' tag on the back cushion that jets out to the right, but you can cut it off if you are embarrassed or bothered by the 'Graco' label. I know in some circles the Graco brand is perceived as down market, but get over it -- this is a terrific wood high chair.
- Cleanup is reasonable. I'm not sure what people expect: kids are messy, food gets in hidden places. Big deal. If you are fanatical about scrubbing the entire chair after every meal then maybe you'd prefer something plastic with fewer edges, but for me cleaning has been a non-issue.
- The finish still looks great after 8 months.

As for the concerns about the crotch bar -- it hasn't been an issue for us. You could remove the cushions to increase the available space if it ever became a problem. I can't comment on the feature to turn into a chair.

Given how much this chair is used I think it's a great value even if our kid outgrows it. The build quality is very high -- and I think Graco could reasonably charge more it.

3.0 out of 5 stars I like it, but it's definitely not for everyone, April 12, 2011
This review is from: Graco Classic Wood Highchair (Baby Product)
If you simply can't stand the idea of having an ugly, garish, plastic high chair with loud animal prints all over it sticking out like a sore thumb in your beautiful kitchen, and you're willing to put up with some minor inconveniences, then this chair is for you. This is a lovely, classic-looking chair that could blend nicely with an existing (adult) dining set. It's functional, it gets the job done. My son has eaten practically every meal in this chair for the last year and overall I'm pleased with the purchase.

Now, the negative parts about this chair:

*Cannot take the tray off with one hand, which some may find inconvenient.

*Plastic tray doesn't "lock" into place. My son quickly figured out how to take it off, which he thought was highly amusing. I was not as amused. After much repetition, he's learned that he is not allowed to take the tray off.

*The biggest negative issue with this chair is that the crotch bar that prevents your child from "submarine-ing" out of the chair doesn't provide a lot of growing room. Luckily, my husband is handy and was able to drill out the wooden dowels holding it in place and move it a couple inches out and it's great now. I don't imagine most people would have the time or ambition to do this.

Overall, however, I found the negatives of this chair minor, and worth it to have a wooden high chair over a plastic one. I'd still buy it again, it has worked fine for us and isn't an eye sore. But it's not for everyone.
