Outstanding Booster Seat, March 2, 2008
This review is from: Graco AirBooster Youth Car Seat in Storm (Baby Product)
Excellent booster seat. Originally, I was planning to buy the Consumer Reports recommended one (Graco Turbobooster). However, that model seemed to lack cushion and I did not feel it would provide enough comfort, especially for longer trips. After seeing the Air Booster in a store, I realized that this is pretty much the same model except for the seat part. The seat part is VERY comfortable and strong and also I read many very good reviews about it.
My son (3 1/2 and about 40lb) is VERY happy with his new big boy seat. It is VERY easy to assemble, install (although not really install, but rather just "place" on the seat) and easy to use.
I HIGHLY recommend this booster seat.

Very Cool and cool too!, October 21, 2007
This review is from: Graco AirBooster Youth Car Seat in Storm (Baby Product)
This seat is exactly what we were looking for...
1. Great head support, including side wings, which helps keep the head upright while they are sleeping rather than bobbing back and forth or drooping down.
2. Excellent mesh seat keeps the bottoms cool and sweat free!!! Finally a seat that is not like sitting in a heated cocoon. It is even comfy as well, due to the conforming characteristics of the mesh seat.
3. Useful cup holders!
4. Easy in and out. Easy seat belt routing. Keeps seat belt in ideal location across chest yet not near the neck. The seat back is adjustable in height or you can remove it entirely when they get bigger.
5. Very nice leather-like accents. Looks very sporty in my FJ Cruiser...
There you have it, a seat that is cool and keeps them cool, even in the summer heat. Expensive, but worth it.

Very versatile seat!!!, February 8, 2009
The seat in this picture, is the exact one, and the same color... that I own.
I just wanted to write a review because so many moms have trouble finding a booster that would allow the belt to be positioned properly on the child's shoulders. Especially moms with smaller or shorter children.
I LOVE the GRaco Air Booster, I'll get to the belt part in a minute, but the other plusses to this seat are the duel cupholders that slide in and out, so the side of the car you put it in no longer matters, & you can have both cups pulled out with a snack or toy in one, and a beverage in the other. Also, there is a special fabric used for the seat bottom, so that it doesn't overheat in a hot car. When seated, air continues to circulate through the vents so the child doesn't get sweaty. Also the back is removeable, so when they outgrow a back and headrest, it converts to a backless booster with armrests (and cupholders still there).
NOW for the belts, it positions the lap belt perfectly on the upper legs / lower pelvis... and the seat comes with a SHOULDER BELT POSTIONER! This is an extra belt(not shown in this photo) that is attached to the seat at the very bottom back, and it reaches around to the childs shoulders (where the black stripe is around the perimiter of the seat in the pic above), then you slide the seatbelt (after its been placed in the red holder that you see above) into the clip on the belt positioner, then you can pull the slack to get the belt positioned EXACLTy where you want it on your child. There are other seats that come with this option, but this one was the best one that I could find, it also comes in tasteful colors that match most car interiors. It also had a very high safety rating when I originally researched it.
My child is very young, too young in some states for this seat, therefore probably smaller then most children this seat would be used for. I bought it for our small sports car convertible. He still uses is regular car seat with harness in the other cars, but he uses the air booster in this one. I NEVER feel that he is unsafe in this seat. Both the leg belt and the shoulder belts are firm. He never moves them or complains about comfort. He plays with his toys and eats his snacks fine. My only minor complaint is that since the seat in our actual sports car is so upright in the back, and this seat molds perfectly to that seat, he is generally too upright to sleep without his head bobbing. But since this is not a car we take on long trips, he hardly ever sleeps in this seat. In a normal car, it would be comfortable for sleeping, and the head rests do a good job of keeping the head in place during sleep, just not quite good enough in our tiny car, around bends, his head sometimes falls forward. I have used the seat a couple of times in other peoples cars since it's easier to move around, and the upright issue is not a problem.
Studies show that children are NOT Automatically more safe in car seats, then they are in seatbelts, or seatbelts with boosters. What causes death and injury in most babies and children, are when these items are used IMPROPERLY! Having a small child in seatbelt alone is dangerous because the belts don't fit the chlld properly, and therefore don't save them in impact, or injure them further. Car seats are only as safe as there installation. Many are not installed properly, and when they are, many parent don't position the harness properly, or at the correct tightness.
I have done a lot of research in this area, including the fact that in Europe the top center snap on the carseats is not even used (they are not included on the seats). Those clips are designed to be "breakaway clips" On impact they are meant to unsnap. The reason we have them here in the US, is because it is another layer of safety. With the clip there and snapped, it is more likely that the shoulder harnesses are positioned properly on the child. Whereas in Europe, a chld can shimmy out of the shoulder harnesses, even ever so slightly, and then in impact, the shoulder harnesses are not in the right place to prevent injury.
I know I sound like a commercial, but I really love it, it has an excellent safety rating, is attractive (which for me in the expensive convertible is of some concern) and has convienent features.... and I think as parents we owe it to eachother to help eachother out.... oh
One last thing STORES WILL ALLOW YOU TO TAKE CAR SEATS OUTSIDE AND PUT THEM IN THE CAR TO TEST THEM OUT! I know this first hand, because I went through a lot of seats for our tiny car. I even looked in Europe for one that was better than some I find here... I tested a lot of seats. DON'T BE TOO SHY TO ASK. Usually they make an employee go out with you, but so what... take it outside, have your child sit in it, and see how the belts fit on the child, and see how the seat fits in your particular car.
It's your child's life, no trouble is to great for their safety. Right?
