This sprayer makes painting almost fun.

The Good

-Shoots paint right out of a 5 gallon bucket.
-Makes painting about 3x faster than using a roller.
-Easy to clean up.
-Even a novice can pick it up.
-Much less over spray than I expected.
-Many places carry parts. Home depot, Lowes, and Dunn Edwards to name a few

Some Points

-This sprayer is for homeowner use. In comparison to commercial Graco Sprayers, the X7 pump is encased within the plastic making it hard to service if the pump ever seized. I was told by an employee at Dunn Edwards that if the pump seizes, you are better off buying a new sprayer. With that said, the commercial Gracos pump can easily be removed and replaced for about $125. Their cost is about $700 from Dunn Edwards. (I don't see them for sale on Amazon). The Graco website is quite helpful in choosing sprayers. I would follow their recommendations. I believe it will save potential buyers money in the long run.

Overall

I'm happy with this sprayer. It does everything it claims. Even if you only finished one big project with the sprayer, a house for example, it would be worth it. I've shot about 15 gallons with it and plan to shoot about another 15. I'll be sure to update as I continue to use this sprayer.

I just completed the painting of the exterior of my 2,200 square foot home with this sprayer, and am thoroughly pleased with my purchase. The build quality of this sprayer is very good and the design is well thought out. It easily paid for itself in time savings on this one project alone (I was able to spray the entire house in about three days, the balance of the job was prep and hand work) and I expect to get many more years of service from it. The quality of the sprayed finish on aluminum siding is unparalleled. My home had been previously painted by brush, the ProX7 was able to flow paint thick enough to easily cover these brushstrokes and leave a very smooth, even finish. I used a Behr premium-grade paint and primer in one product, which was extremely viscous, and the ProX7 had no issues flowing it well, even when I was 30 feet overhead, without the need to thin it. I found control to be exceptional, I did my wooden trim around window casements by hand, and this 4" margin for error proved to be ample space to paint with just a small spay shield, and in the case of the horizontal edges without any masking whatsoever. Perhaps it was the density of my paint or my careful work, but I found warnings over overspray going everywhere to be greatly overstated.

On rough, freshly-scarped wood surfaces, I found brushwork to be much more effective at applying a nice thick coat than the sprayer. But on aluminum, it was a dream. I pressure-washed with TSP, hosed it off, and went at it, and the results were excellent.

The major drawbacks to a sprayer, beyond cost, is that there is a fairly complex startup and shutdown procedure, and if you fail to follow it you WILL wind up with a mess, a confounding non-spraying sprayer, or a very expensive broken tool.

I bought the refurbished version of this sprayer to save a few bucks, the one I got worked great. I have rented sprayers in the past and was never satisfied with the consistency of the spray, but this one, so far, has done a good job. I sprayed ceilings and crown molding (with the tip extension), base trim, doors, and walls. I had a few runs when I would hesitate, but overall the sprayer did a good job. I was particularly concerned about getting acceptable results on the doors, but they turned out great. I sprayed heavy latex right out of the can. Clean up is always a pain with a sprayer but this was easier than some I have used. Someone suggested spraying the hose and sprayer with spray cooking oil to make clean up easier and that was a great suggestion.

I bought this sprayer because I have a couple duplexes that I'm reworking and I do volunteer work (mostly construction and maintenance) all over. This model will handle anything I need to do and as much as I need to. It's beyond the "home handyman" level; but if you have a few extra bucks - this is a great sprayer for the home handyman! You can never have to many tools. I have used low quality sprayers at times in the past and it's frustrating. This sprayer will allow you to quickly apply coatings at the viscosity they were meant to be applied at - no more thinned down paint running down a wall. One of the biggest plusses is that tips and parts are readily available at most hardware or building centers - including Lowes and Home Depot. In fact, Home Depot carries this model, but you will pay about $75 more unless you catch a sale. With Amazon prices and Prime shipping, this is a bargain. I was so impressed with Graco that I bought stock in the company!
