How many portable playards and pack n' plays does one baby need? I don't know the answer to that question, but we have FOUR (and actually tried a FIFTH one). Here are my assessments of them in comparison to each other so you can have a sense of which ones are better than others.

Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders Aquarium Playard - This is the benchmark for comparison. When I had my first child, he was only in our house so this served as his napper and playard in the family room when we didn't want to trek to the bedroom. My first loved it. Napped easily in the bassinet, changed his diapers in the bassinet, easy to clean, set up, take apart, and the mobile was awesome - ran on batteries and had good songs. This was THE ultimate playard. In fact, we brought this back out from the basement to use at one set of grandparents' house for naps and playtime. Add durable to the list of pluses! (This was most likely made by Graco because it has very similar mechanisms for the bassinet and folding.) FIVE STARS.

Graco Pack 'N Play Element Playard, Tangerine - Fast forward 7 years later... So how does this stack up? We purchased this because I liked the stages concept because there was a time where my first child outgrew the bassinet because he was sitting up, but wasn't quite ready to be all the way at the bottom of the pack n play. Also, I am going to make a disclaimer. I NEVER use the changing table attachment on this or any playard. Instead, I always just use the upper level bassinet. Provides a safe and secure environment for the baby (especially my two rolly polly ones), and gives me enough height where I am not hurting my back bending over excessively. For the first 6 months, we used the top level bassinet, then from 6 to 9 months (currently) we are on the middle level.

I got the Graco Pack n Play Element in Oasis as a gift for my baby shower. I had done a lot of research prior to putting this on my registry. I wanted a playard that was safe and useful. I chose the Element being it had a changing station attached and this playard would be kept at my mother'se house being she will be watching my daughter while I am at work. The bassinet and playard are great. The Oasis pattern is pretty.

The negatives about the Element are that the changing station doesnt lay flat. When the baby is in it, it slopes down which then causes my daughter to slide and her face smooshes into the side. My father had to buy various pieces at the hardware store to makeshift a device to put between the changing station bar and the playard bar to keep it level.

Another downside is that the mobile when wound up doesn't play for very long.

Love the pack n play itself, but the changing table leaves a lot to be desired. As soon as you put the baby on the changing table, it leans to one side so much that it makes it almost impossible to change her. It just seems not a lot of thought was put into the design. We used the changing table for maybe 2 weeks and finally took it off, it also made changing the sheets impossible with it on so constantly having to remove it. Not worth it.

Excellent buy! I was searching and comparing pack n plays for a couple weeks and I am so happy I choose this one and my son loves it! It is easy to assemble or disassemble, sturdy, and looks great in my home as well (some pack n plays are a little over the top). I know some people were complaining about the changing pad not being sturdy and slanting when they put their child in. My son weighs 16lbs and we have NOT had any problems!

Not thrilled with this purchase. The pack n play itself is the standards playpen you would expect and I have no issues with it. It was even pretty easy to out together. However, we bought this to function primarily as a changing station on our main floor and the changing pad is really disappointing. It's rated to 25lbs but my 10lb baby causes the table to tip down unevenly. It doesn't seem nearly strong enough to support a 25 pounder. If the changing table function is important to you, definitely don't buy this product.

Our newborn has been sleeping in the Element Playard exclusively for four months now, and we are very happy with this purchase. We still use it at the bassinet level, and have the Dream On Me 3" Foam mattress (FYI, this mattress is very firm and while good for newborns, we are now finding it too hard for our growing son). The biggest draw to the Metropolis is that very clean looking. I have no idea why Graco makes these in such over-the-top, outrageous colors and patterns. This was honestly the only playard we considered because it was the only neutral-looking one. We were not disappointed, it blends in very nicely with our black bedroom furniture. The hanging stars look cute. They are easy to put on and take off, and you can position them anywhere along the length of the crib.

It was easy to assemble and is fairly easy to take apart when we travel. The bassinet level does not fold up very well, and does not fit into the carrying case (though I don't think it's actually supposed to fit in there). However, we were still able to transport the entire thing pretty easily. It is very sturdy, and we have had zero issues with its durability. Once the entire thing is in the carrying bag, it's super easy to zip up, and there is about 1-2 inch wiggle room in there. This is KEY for me, because I HATE it when I get a product and have to fight to stuff the damn thing in its carrying case.

I cannot attest to the durability of the wheels, as it permanently lives in the corner of our bedroom, unless we are traveling. Also, we never used the changing table. We actually bought a $10 changing pad and cover, and just lay it in the bassinet when we change our son.

Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase. I do wish there were more mattress options for the playards, as it seems more and more parents are using them in place of cribs. Seems odd that Graco hasn't cashed in on this yet.
