This is not a design flaw on Graco's part necessarily, but it is definitely something to consider when buying this seat.

He is nowhere near the height and weight limits but the straps are too tight.

We were trying to decide between Graco Snugride 30, 32 and 35, all of which had great reviews. What ultimately helped us in our decision makings were the size and weight of the car seat, and consulting the weight and the height chart that my mother in law has kept all these years in my husband's baby book.

First the size of the car seat. Take the measurement tape and take the time to actually measure the back of your seat! Snugride 32 and 35 measures 15.6H 18.7W x 30.7D" and the seat weighs 9.7 pounds w/o the base. In comparison Snugride 30 measures 24H 14W x 22D" and the seat weighs 7.5 pounds. When I actually measured the back of my SUV, I was surprised to learn how much room the Snugride 32 and 35 took. It took so much room that it made the back seat uncomfortable for anybody else to sit on the either side of the car seat and ride with the baby, and the front seat passenger would also have to slide up the car seat quite a bit in order to give room for the Snugride 32 and 35. Snugride 30 in comparison is 8 inches shorter in depth and almost 5 inches narrower, making it much more comfortable for the accompanying passengers.

The main benefit of getting Snugride 32 or 35 over the 30 is that it seems to last longer because of its higher weight and height limit for the growing infants. I had no idea at how many months the babies took to reach these height and weight limits so I consulted my husband's baby book that my mother in law has kept all these years. To give you a rough idea, my husband is 6'3" tall and weighs roughly 150 pounds. As a baby he was born 8Lb12oz. He reached the 30" height at 10 months, 33" in 11 months.

I love the neutral design of this car seat. After deciding I wanted a Graco Safeseat, the design is what sold me on this particular model.

Unfortunately it does have an annoying flaw, though as noted by a previous reviewer. The canopy (which is not a full 180 degrees like many other infant seats) gets stuck with the handle of the car seat. It seems that the canopy is just a tad too large. My baby is not here yet, so I can't attest to the other functions of the car seat, but the canopy, I have a feeling, will be quite annoying.

Also, a warning -- the car seat is NOT exactly as pictured. The car seat has a large ugly safety warning ironed into the side (next the child's head) that is distracting from the cute design. I'm guessing it is a law that the warnings must be on the cover, but unfortunately the pictures used to advertise this product are very misleading.

Now that my infant is 5 weeks old I have an update. I would NOT purchase this car seat & I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
~The canopy issue has become incredibly annoying. I can't adjust it easily, especially in the car when I notice the sun is in her face. And when on a walk I have to stop to adjust the canopy, I can't just do it while walking. Hugely annoying.
~We are already getting warm weather which has brought to light another incredible design flaw - the cover is fleece. I took my daughter out in 85 degree weather today. She was dressed in a sundress & diaper. She started screaming after about 20 minutes outside, we were in the shade. When I took her out of the seat, her back was on fire.
~I also find it difficult to put into the base it came with.

I have used this car seat for the last 6 months. There are lots of issues with this car seat and I do not recommend it. The cheap fleece material makes my baby sweat no matter what temperature it is outside. We took him to a restaurant where he fell asleep in the car seat for about an hour. When I went to take him out, his whole back was drenched. I felt awful! The canopy is constantly getting stuck in the handle which is very annoying when the baby is asleep and I have to put the sunshade over him. The jostling always wakes him up. I had a few incidences where I could not pop the car seat out of its base. My baby was essentially stuck in the car (yes I could have just lifted him out of the seat but my car is small and it is very difficult to get the clearance needed to lift him out). My baby is only 6 months and is already outgrowing the seat. He is nowhere near the height and weight limits but the straps are too tight. Even with the straps at their loosest. We now have to buy a convertible car seat much earlier than I anticipated and I am going to lose the convenience of the infant seat. There are definitely better infant car seats out there!!

My baby is only 12 weeks old and the straps are too tight at the highest adjustment point! He has not reached 30 lbs, or 30 inches high, and he is very uncomfortable with the tight straps. Now I have to buy a convertible car seat and will lose the convenience of the portable infant carseat. Get a bigger and better one.
