5.0 out of 5 stars Best value for quality and supreme safety
I purchased this seat for my fourth baby, I knew what I wanted and the Graco Ionic has it all. I wanted the seat to be very safe, easy to clean, comfortable, be able to recline, and fit nicely in my van. I can finally use the new safety tethers in the van. The Ionic has become one with the van, it's not going anywhere! The seat is easy to take apart to clean or just...

3.0 out of 5 stars Big and Bulky
We bought this booster for our soon to be three year old. It is really, really, big. We intended to take it on a flight, but opted for his sister's covertible instead (she's still a lap child) and checked his. Thank goodness we did! This seat would have not fit in the airplane seat comfortably. He already puts his feet on the seat in front of him, but he would have...

I wanted the seat to be very safe, easy to clean, comfortable, be able to recline, and fit nicely in my van. I can finally use the new safety tethers in the van. The Ionic has become one with the van, it's not going anywhere! The seat is easy to take apart to clean or just vacuum off. My one year old is comfy and can relax in recline for the long rides we take. What a wonderful seat! Hooray!

I love this carseat. There is only one negative about it and that is how large it is at least for a smaller car. I have a toyota corolla and it is kind of awkward getting my son in and out. When I was researching for a carseat this one got excellent safety ratings and that is most important to me. Also high up on my priority list was comfort. My son appears very comfortable and the recline feature is wonderful! I have it positioned in the middle of the backseat and part of the negative that I said about the size includes that it sits rather tall but on the flip side my son enjoys being able to what is going on. So even with the negative I mentioned I still give it a 5. I might caution you to consider other options if you do have a smaller car but otherwise it is a great seat and a great buy for the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars great seat, but take measurements, September 14, 2007
This review is from: Graco Toddler SafeSeat Step2 Reclining Car Seat in Ionic (Baby Product)
my daughter (14 mo) seems very comfy in this seat. it is HUGE, so make sure that your vehicle is large enough. the ONLY disappointment is the fabric, which many are using now. what's w/the shinny stuff? some claim it's more heat tolerant. i'm not so sure about that. on really hot days, my daughter's head still gets pretty wet. plus, it seams to really show water marks. i haven't washed the pad yet, so maybe those come out. all-in-all a great purchase for us. it appears to provide my child with a safe and secure ride. plus, no recalls on this one so far. i would buy it again, but would try a different fabric.

I purchased this seat yesterday in the g galore pattern and it is wonderful. I gave my 6 month old the Evenflo Triumph seat which can go rear facing and moved my 17 month old to this seat. Yes it is big but it really wasn't any wider than the Evenflow triumph seat. It does sit up high and it appears that is for the base which then allows the seat to recline while fastened into the car.

My 17 month old sat down in the seat and did not want to get out...he was in heaven! This seat was super easy to install with the seat reclined like the directions suggest - easy to get the belt into the belt path (my older van doesn't have latch). The harness straps were super easy to adjust to the right height - and tightening the straps while the child is in the seat is just as easy as an infant in the infant seat! Much easier to adjust than my evenflo seat (with the upfront knobs).

The g galore fabric is stylish and super soft - I read the complaints about the ionic pattern and the stellar pattern.

Overall a great seat. I'll be curious to see how it compares to graco's new seat the nautalis that comes out this week.

5.0 out of 5 stars We own two of these and are very happy, March 30, 2009
We have been using these car seats for awhile now. We have two of them, one for our 2-year-old and one for our 4-year-old. We love the RECLINE feature -- in fact, we use it so much, I don't know what we did before without it. Well, wait, yes I do -- their poor little heads bobbed around and they got no quality sleep and woke up with stiff necks!

Anyway, I just wanted to say that yes, they are big and heavy. But I guess it depends on what your needs are. We drive a minivan, so room isn't an issue like it is in a smaller car. We don't fly, so don't need it for a plane. And we don't have a need to move them often. They are nice and secure -- the tightest fitting car seats we have ever owned -- and are very easy to install and remove.

But, I will also mention that they are the most expensive car seats we have ever owned. So, we do not have Britax experience to compare them to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Seat!, December 2, 2008
This review is from: Graco Toddler SafeSeat Step2 Reclining Car Seat in Ionic (Baby Product)
This is the 2nd Step 2 SafeSeat I have bought. It's my daughter's primary seat in my car and my husbands. The recline feature is great, it comfortable, the straps never get twisted. I haven't had an issue with either seat having the wings break off. It is a big car seat, but it fits in my Liberty and Tacoma just fine. Will be buying two moer of these for my son when he can be in a forward facing seat.

4.0 out of 5 stars great seat! material doesn't breathe, September 17, 2008
i love this seat. it is so comfy for my 2 year old. he has been in it a year and it's still perfect. my only complaint is that the shiny material doesn't breathe and his back is always sweaty even if it's just warm out. some of the other colors of this seat are made of better material so i would go with a different color.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for long vacation drives, but man what a moose!, June 20, 2008

It is always hard on little kids to go on long car rides. My wife and I have a rough riding pickup truck to pull the camper. We leave in the evening and hope our little one will sleep for the long ride. Often times her head would bounce, wake her up repeatedly, and it would frustrate her terribly. This car seat solved our troubles. With it's excellent reline feature, our little one can take a long nap even in our bouncy pickup truck. I am so thankful that we found this car seat. The only disadvantage to this car seat is that it is a MOOSE. It is absolutely huge. When we put it in the back seat of our compact car, it takes up a majority of the rear seat. If you have a compact car, or other children will be riding in the back, beware. Otherwise, this car seat is most excellent for the back seat of a pickup truck or a van. Pefect for long drives.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, March 10, 2008
The car seat is quite large, but I like how it is easier for my toddler to see out the car window. The box was really beaten up when the package arrived, but the car seat was just fine. The car seat is very comfortable for my toddler and I feel it has fit the bill.

We bought this booster for our soon to be three year old. It is really, really, big. This seat would have not fit in the airplane seat comfortably. He already puts his feet on the seat in front of him, but he would have been kicking the person in front of him in this chair.
It's a nice fit for him with plenty of room to grow. My biggest issue is the size. It barely fits in my sedan. I even had to move the seat up so it didn't squish his legs. Other than that, it seems pretty safe and relatively comfy for him.
