Poor design and breaks quickly!,

Although this was a great concept, it isn't perfect.Ours broke after just 6 weeks of use. The lid no longer opens and closes. The gears inside stripped from my older child manually opening it once. We have had it more than 30 days, so we can't return it and who wants to return a stinky diaper pail? As another reviewer mentioned, the lid has to be taken off and screws undone to replace the 'D' batteries. This battery cover is a little too close to where the diapers travel through, so it is a really gross process. Our pail will hold about a half of a week of diapers. They should be emptied more often than this anyway. The ball part inside that holds the diaper and then drops it in the trash can gets gross, no matter how hard you try to be careful and contain the mess. And the smell! It does absolutely nothing for the smell no matter how many of their filters you buy. There is the constant smell leaking from it, but when you open the pail to put in a diaper you just want to go running from the room before the smell overwhelms you. I wish I had saved my money and just bought a trash can.

You'd think that a diaper pail with a power-driven lid would come with an electrical cord, right? Wrong. This junker requires four D batteries that need to be replaced once or twice EACH WEEK.But wait; there's more! Installing new batteries requires taking off the smelly lid and unscrewing THREE small Phillips-head screws that hold the unwieldy battery cover in place! You couldn't come up with a stupider design if you tried.

We recently purchased one of these and had to return it immediately. I wish we had read these reviews first! The touch-free sensor didn't work at all (yes, the batteries were installed correctly), so the lid would not open unless you manually lifted it. I agree with previous reviews that the battery compartment is of particularly poor design, the need to remove three screws to replace the batteries is a hassle. I'm glad we didn't keep it long enough to realize how fast the batteries wear out. Avoid this product!

Does not work,

This product does not work. We own an automatic-opening trash can that we use in our kitchen and that has worked fine for over a year. It's too bad that this company could not get a similar technology to work. I can't imagine that this product has not been recalled or discontinued yet.

This thing did not work at all. We double checked to make sure the batteries were in properly. Opened the lid by hand, and it would close on it's own, but the sensor would not open the lid ever. Useless. Also, the off white/ beige color is pretty ugly, in my opinion. We only got it because of the automatic lid. Later, we looked up reviews of this product on Amazon and saw many other people had the same problem. Wish we had done our research first. Hopefully Graco gets these reviews and takes it off the market.

I purchased this diaper pail recently, I've used the Diaper Genie with my other 3 children, thinking the hands free option would be great. It is a great idea but they need to work on sealing the smell every time the lid opens. At first it was okay but after a while it got to be too much. I went out a few days ago and purchased the Diaper Genie II, I'm sure it will work just as well as the original. As a note, I've tried a few different brands and I've always come back to the Diaper Genie, it definitely is the best at keeping the odors locked in.

We've had this diaper pail for about 10 months. We like it a lot. We've changed the batteries once. We need to change the filter but just haven't gotten around to it. It's easy to put the diapers in but it is a little smelly now that the filter is old. We empty it about once a week, but my daughter is in daycare 5 days a week so it doesn't have to hold all her diapers. I would recommend turning it so the sensor is on the far side, away from curious little hands so the batteries don't get used up prematurely. We had a diaper champ before and this is MUCH easier than flipping over the plunger thing from the diaper champ. I had a hard time with that after my c-section since my stomach muscles were pretty much wet noodles--I was surprised how many simple tasks required core muscles, including flipping the plunger on the diaper champ. We're expecting again (and I'm expecting to have another c-section) so I'm looking for another one for the new baby so I can actually put diapers in the pail without pain.

After reading the negative reviews, I decided to share my experience with the infamous touch free diaper pail. The diaper pail has worked perfectly and I have only changed the batteries 2-3x in almost 2 years (maybe it depends on the brand of batteries used, I use Duracell). The location of the batteries is an inconvenience but not of such a big issue for me. In addition, I have not experienced poo-poo or P in the "bowel" that catches the diaper,, of course, the diaper is securely fastened before I throw it in the diaper pail so I have not had this problem. I always take Clorox wipes & wipe it down every week-week & 1/2. The only gripe I have is difficulty in finding the odor free replacement filters. They were available @ Babies R Us, but not anymore. Been searching online without success to date. The filters actually help eliminate odors when the pail opens to drop a diaper in. They lasted 30-45 days, my experience, but have become difficult to find. It won't stop me from using this pail until my baby is potty trained but they were nice to have!

For our fist child we had the diaper genie and I always hated it for the changing of the cartdrige that bags the diapers. The smell from that one was always toxic. I really like this one and have only replaced the batteries twice and our daughter is almost 7 months old.The one problem I'm having is locating places that sell the filters, I find if these get replaced regularily the smell is almost none existant. |
