Awesome diaper pail,
By J.B. (Boston, Ma) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Graco Touch Free Diaper Pail (Baby Product)
We have twins and love this diaper pail. It never stinks at all, thanks to the filters, which are cheap, and really easy to replace. The automatic lid is great - you just wave your hand over it and it opens and automatically closes. You never have to touch the lid. You can use regular garbage bags which also saves $$. It fills up after 2-3 days because of the amt of diapers twins generate. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

got this pail reluctantly since there were so many terrible reviews about this one and most people praised the diaper champ. I got it because I was able to get it free through a work incentive program, so i thought I'd try it out. Now that i have it, i would have paid the $50 or so for it.My daughter is 3 months old now and I haven't had to change the batteries yet. I can use the target stretchy grocery bags in it... i'm sure you can use others but those tie the tightest when i have to throw the diapers out. I love the touch free aspect so you don't have to let go of the baby on the changing table to throw away the diaper. As far as the smell goes... there is none! We are in a small apartment and have it in our bedroom and haven't smelled the dirty diapers once. However, when we went to visit a friend who has a baby the same age as ours. We used their "diaper champ" and both my husband and I noticed that their diaper pail smelled bad and didn't like having to reach over to turn the handle thing. Some other negative comments people have made about it are that you have to empty the diapers frequently. I only have had to change it every couple days at the beginning when you change a million diapers a day, and now that we're changing diapers less, i probably empty it once or twice a week. Besides, i don't like to have dirty diapers sitting in my house a long time anyways.

Touch free...a fun toy for kids...,

We have 16 month old twins so we go through A LOT of diapers. A few months ago, I got fed up wasting money on diaper genie refill packs and started shopping around. The Graco diaper pail got excellent reviews here so I jumped in, and decided to surprise my wife with a new solution, even though it was priced pretty high compared to what we felt a 'diaper pail' should cost. When she saw it, her first reaction was 'well, it's nice, but...how do we stop the twins from triggering the infra-red opener and playing with it.' Valid concern, the diaper pail quickly became one of their favorite toys (as any parent knows, the best toys from a kid's perspective are the ones that parents don't encourage). Open...close...open...close... Then one day, the diaper pail got over-full, and somehow wouldn't open or close anymore. When I emptied it, somehow the mechanism to open and close had broken, just weeks after buying it. We can (and do) still manually use the pail, but the electronic part no longer works... So, my advice is that this would probably be good for new parents, up until kids start walking around themselves and getting curious. I would be careful to empty this regularly, because I suspect ours broke once it got too full. At some stage you may want to just turn off the infra-red part, and just use it manually, it works fine that way.

We have triplets, so this diaper pail is perfect for us. We have used the Diaper Champ in the past, but our girls became fascinated with it and just wanted to play with it. There must be something fascinating to a 1-year-old about that handle... Anyway, tired of fishing Little People out of the bag of dirty diapers, I decided to try this diaper pail on the recommendation of another friend with triplets. We have had no problems. The girls aren't really interested in the pail since it's just a flap that lifts. It's a little tough for them to lift, anyway. We don't use the automatic setting (too interesting for the little ones!), so I can't really comment on that. We empty it every day, so we don't have any problem with smell build-up. That being said, you can definitely tell when it's time for a new filter. But, they're cheap, easy to install, and readily available, so no biggie. If you had just one child, I could see that this might not be perfect for you - the smells might linger, and it might not hold as many days worth of diapers as other systems. But, for us it works great!

It does what it is supposed to do!,

It is really good as it serves the purpose it was bought for...which is disposing soiled diapers. I have it for 2 years now, the sensory thing broke in 1 month! I dont mind that because I never really enjoyed it , infact it annoyed the heck out of it. I guess mine never really worked as it was supposed to because I almost always kept waving hands in front of the sensor and it would open after 5 seconds in a wierd slow motion. The body of the pail is sturdy and the filter is a great thing to keep smell out of nursery. Will I buy it again, Yes!

This is by far the best diaper pail on the market. It was $50 when we bought it, being sold through amazon. It contains all the smells and the carbon filters work wonderful! Love that you can use regular household trash bags inside it.

This is a great pail. I love the opening sensor feature and the space for dumping the diaper is so big you could fit two diapers at once. The battery last a long time (have used it for 6 months now and havent had to change the battery). The only thing you have to change every 1 or 1 1/2 month is the filter, otherwise you can start smelling close to the unit. I have an older kid and wished I knew about this pail then. Compared to other ones (diaper champ and the one with the fan option) this is a good option for the price and features. The fact that you can use regular trash bags is a good deal - for the smells, you can always get the bags that control odors.

Our friends had this pail for their son and while we were visiting we fell in love with it! It was automated and it contained the smell! Well, sure it contains the smell of a small baby whose main diet does not consist of solid foods. Once your baby hits the toddler years - forget it!!! Our son's room always smells like dirty diapers now! Even when there are NONE in the pail! We've disinfected the whole thing numerous times, left it completely disassembled sitting out in the hot, summer FL sun all day. Nothing works. I'm going out to buy a Diaper Genie II Elite tomorrow. That same friend just ditched her Graco for the Diaper Genie II Elite for the exact reasons as us and her son's room doesn't smell at all. I've read reviews all over the internet ([...]) on the Genie and it has the best ones by far. Something of note on the Diaper Genie II Elite: their pails are made with an antimicrobial plastic that inhibits the growth of bacteria and which works as an additional odor deterrent in the system.****NEW/FIRST-TIME PARENTS: PLEASE keep in mind that as long as you have a newborn and have not entered the toddler years, you honestly have NO idea what "smelly" really is! LOL So, when trying to find a diaper pail that will work for you, look for reviews on how it measures up to a toddler's stinky diapers and not just another parent that has a "4 month old", etc. - the toddler stage is the true test. Just some friendly advice from a first time mom with a now 18-month-old who has already gone through 3 different diaper pails! :]

The product is very durable. However, Graco no longer makes this product and I do not know about a future replacement. It is also difficult to find replacement filters for all the customers that have purchased this product. That doe not seem right for the customers that purchased this product. John Vaughn

This diaper pail was good for the first few months of baby's life. It was convenient to wave a hand over the sensor and drop in the diaper. However, at some point, the poo overtakes the pail. I just don't believe it is realistic to think that any diaper pail is going to hold "a few days" worth of diapers when baby hits a certain production threshold. Was it four months, six months- I don't remember. But at some point, I just decided that these stinky things have to go out every day and sometimes more than once. Thank goodness for the environmentally unfriendly wal-mart bag.
