I bought these originally for practicing my suture techniques with different sized needle holders. I find it very hard to control my needle with these. No matter how I grip the needle, it will twist in the jaws once I make my first incision and I'm unable to complete the bite or direct the needle. For awhile I thought it was the way I was holding them, but when I had borrowed my colleagues needle holders (same style different brand) and tried other needle holders, I had no difficulties. I would recommend these for practicing suture techniques only; not for surgery.
