Biography

Kelly Jones has been in this London pub before. But that’s probably not surprising seeing that Jones, and his band Stereophonics, have been nearly everywhere before.

In the past 15 years they’ve toured virtually all over the world, chalking up five UK Number One albums along the way. They’ve headlined Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium and hung out with rock’s ... Read more in Amazon's Stereophonics Store

Editorial Reviews

Eighth studio album (the first on their own label) from multi-platinum selling British band. Following their Best Of compilation 'A Decade In the Sun' which sold over a million copies in 2008 and their last LP 'Keep Calm And Carry On', released in 2009, the group quit Universal Records, acquired a new rehearsal "den" in west London and breathed a sigh of relief. Instead of a summer of festival headliners, Jones found himself exploring other creative avenues "I had all these little things I d been wanting to do for 15 years. Whether it was writing scripts, or writing short stories...making different types of music. And I just decided to stop travelling and see what would happen."

This is a tough review to write because I love this band so much, but in general this is not going to be a CD for everyone.

This is a tough review to write because I love this band so much, but in general this is not going to be a CD for everyone. For people in the states that don't know much about this band, what you need to know is they are pretty big in Europe, sell out arena's and sometimes stadiums and headline the biggest festivals overseas. In the US, they are sadly a blip on the radar. Pop culture here has past them by.

The best way to sum up this CD is with one word - experimental. The band really does have a very "pop" vibe and sound to them in a slightly heavier, rock-n-roll sort of way. They steer away from that on this CD. That doesn't make it bad, it is just different. It is much more creative and I don't think the band cares a ton if the fans like it or not, they are at a phase where they are tired of trying to make a record that they think people will like. Instead they have made something THEY like and if the fans like it too, all the better.

For me, I like it and appreciate it but it was only on heavy rotation in my car for a few days. It is a very moody record. Some of their CD's and I can pop in at anytime and I'm into it. This release is different. Listening to it in the car in a casual way doesn't really cut it. It needs to be, begs to be, played LOUD. With headphones and a drink or three...even better.

If you are into Stereophonics I would not hestitate to buy it. If you are not into them and considering this for your first purchase, I would check out some of their earlier stuff first unless you are a risk taker and will enjoy the sound of a band reinventing themselves, or at least trying to reinvent themselves.

"Grafitti On The Train" is the eighth studio album by Stereophonics a Welsh band that has had tremendous success in the UK, Europe and other countries. They have done some small tours in the U.S. and opened for David Bowie on part of his "Reality" tour. The have had 10 UK top ten singles and several of their albums have also been on the top of the charts. For some reason they just haven't had the same success in the U.S. I agree with the other reviewer about this new album. The may be trying to shed their Britpop image their music has often been labeled. They are a great live band and they do sell out their headline concerts and festival dates when they are on tour.
This new album is a departure from their more familiar sound but Kelly Jones the lead singer and songwriter has that special talent of storytelling through his song lyrics. Some of the new songs are a bit more somber but still get your attention and keep wanting to hear them over and over. His unique vocals are very expressive and emotional which make their music very genuine. I really think if anyone is looking for something fresh and different they should look into this new Stereophonics album. If you like this one then go back to some of their other albums and you just might find out what their fans have known for years.

This is my favorite Stereophonics album so far, and also one of my favorite new releases of 2013. The collection of songs varies widely, from the pop feel of Indian Summer, to the throwback bluesy vibe of Been Caught Cheating, to the dark, trippy In A Moment, to the emotionally-driven No-One's Perfect. The variety flows well from one song to the next. None of it feels choppy or out of place. Instead, the surprising blend of styles feels just right.

Often I'll find an album where either the music or lyrics stand out as better. Here, the two mesh beautifully. Not one song left me wanting something more or different in either area.

This is definitely a gem for any music lover's collection.

If there is one thing that is certain you can bet that The Stereophonics never repeat the same old hashed out licks on every new CD (Album....I love saying that 'cause if just sounds better!!). Kelly Jones is not afraid of taking chances and this latest effort proves that. The music here is somewhat more somber. Yet, there is an underlying edge that keeps it flowing. Check out the song, "Catacomb" as it is a burner that churns up a little dust! Plus, if you thought the boys in the band did not have a playful side then you need to check out, "Been Caught Cheating." A bluesy effort that speaks about infidelity. Other stand out tracks are: "Indian Summer", the title track, "We Share the Same Sun", and "No One's Perfect."

This is an honest effort from the boys across the pond. And, while it might not prove to be an instant classic I believe that over time it will hold it's own! Just like a movie is supposed to entertain so is the music we listen to. Plus, if the music is really good and you can connect with it it allows you to create your own images in your head while you listen to it! Stereophonics have managed this in spades with "Graffiti On A Train."
