Good for a bed, but not for a chair,

This review is from: Graham Field Deluxe Tilt Overbed Table (Electronics)
This is a sturdy product. It is a usefly product for the elderly. It is about $40 less through Amazon than through the medical catalogues. My main disappointment is that you cannot lower the table. There is a spring mechanism that does not allow the table to stay at the lowest level, which is perfect for an older person sitting in a chair. We needed to keep the moving pin in place in order to keep the table secure. Unfortunately, that is about three inches too high. This may be good for over a bed, but doesn't work as well for over a chair.

Great Value- prepare for assembly,

I bought this for myself in preparation for weeks of bed rest after surgery. It is quite sturdy for home use, was big enough to be useful for eating, holding books, water bottles, laptop, etc.For the price, I can't complain one bit. I took off one star for assembly (but the assembler isn't too adept) and because it is difficult to adjust the height yourself while in bed. I never tilt it. It's always too full of stuff. It has wheel locks, to keep it in place. Those work fine. So if your attendent puts them down, it is hard to push the thing away. Now that I am out of bed, this little guy is making the rounds of the house. Get one for the family room- it is bigger and sturdier than a TV tray. It's great for doing crafts. The top has a little lip to keep anything from rolling off. Right now it is in the office as a mobile desk return. It gives me more room with I need it to spread out.

Need a Laptop Table? Great Solution,

I looked far and wide for a laptop desk I could use in bed. I read the other reviews regarding this product. I can say most are "spot on". 5 stars. Assembly was easy, 6 small bolts, and 2 large ones. Assembly time - 5 minutes with basic tools. Came well packed via UPS within 5 days. I think it is very well made considering the low cost and it is perfect for using any size laptop in bed. I concur that it won't lower enough to use in most chairs. It is height adjustable (Spring Assist), and as a friend asked me, it does tilt both ways. The color is a dark mahogany, Looks just like the picture. Strongly Recommend this item. A Great Value. Free Shipping.

I purchased an over-the-bed (hospital-type) table. I am not completely satisfied with my purchase. When I have used this type table before (always in a hospital) there has never been a problem with the table staying at the right height. My husband and I have tried to get this table to stay at a certain height but it just keeps going up about 2 or 3 inches from where we set it and I have to keep pushing it back down when I am using it.

Terrible Product,
This review is from: Graham Field Deluxe Tilt Overbed Table (Electronics)
I purchased this product for pc laptop tables for Christmas 2007, it's now January 14, 2008 and one is completely broken and the other doesn't function properly. They are made so cheaply that they are destined not to last. The biggest piece of junk I have ever purchased. DO NOT BUY!!!!!

Pandora's Box,

I really like this product now that I have it out of the box and assembled. It does have the oft mentioned fault that it will not stay all the way down, but I am using a full sized iMac (25 plus pounds). It stays as low as I want! Height adjustment is fairly easy (given the weight I have on it) and tilt (If I wanted to dump the iMac) is also okay. It does seem sturdy enough so far, even though I am on the edge of the 30 pound limit.Open the box carefully - The bolts, washers and nuts were loose in the box. Also the cheap styrofoam packing at each end deteriorated and left little white crumbs on and in everything. The "parts list" does not say how many of each; so, I can only guess that the bracket with six holes is really intended to use only four bolts (I searched diligently through the box of white crumbs). Not all the parts are listed or mentioned; so, you have to use some "artistic license." The assembly instructions may as well not be there, and the picture and the fact that there are not many parts is all that saved me. All-in-all, I like the product and recommend it for a bedside/chairside computer table.

The table works fairly well. Rolling freely is hard since we have it on carpet. Only problems are the top tends to tilt slightly a all times not when a tilt is wanted and when pushing the table top completely down it pushes itself up several inches.

I bought this item for my mother for times that she is sick in bed and for her laptop computer. It is very well made, and for the price it was a perfect buy. I was concerned that it was not going to be high enough to fit over her bed because she has a very high bed and a very thick mattress, but it was a perfect fit and plenty of room to fit her legs underneath. I highly recommend this product.

I purchased this table for use with my laptop on the bed. The table was easy to assemble and all parts were included. A bit messy though from the little styrofoam balls and oil (from movable parts). Previous reviews are correct that table does not stay entirely down at lowest position, though I haven't found this to be an issue for my use. Tilt feature is nice, especially for using as a laptop table on the bed. Plenty of room for laptop and assorted paraphenalia. Good buy.

I'm very glad I have this table, and hope it lasts for years. If you have physical limitations, read on:I have built simple furniture from "scratch" and have assembled many other pieces. The "Deluxe" Overbed Table was the most irritating challenge yet. Perhaps the instructions were re-written since the reviewer who had it together in 5 minutes received his. I wish he'd helped me! If you have physical limitations, as I do, get someone to help you. The item is heavy, and therefore sturdy. The instructions are a mess. So is the packaging. You get one tool with the table, an Allen wrench. I needed several others: an adjustable wrench (pliers might work), a hammer, a rubber mallet and a piece of plywood (to protect the casters/wheels when you attach them to the base), a Phillips head screwdriver (try several sizes). Two more hands would have helped! The instructions are missing a crucial step: install the casters/wheels to the base (using the rubber mallet or a board-and-hammer) BEFORE attaching the base to the "mast." Under "Operation" step B is written in remarkably fuzzy I-don't-know-English: "Remove hands, automatically located attainable." This means that the table top stays in place once you release the "Height Adjustable Plate." I could re-write the instructions here, but I made copious notes on mine so that if I ever have to disassemble/reassemble this table (don't trust movers not to demolish it) I'll remember what to do. Total assembly time, including disassembly to back up and do-over, was one hour. If you have back, neck or shoulder pain, or have problems working on the floor and lifting heavy items, take some meds first, and plan on giving yourself time for recovery! On a positive note this table fits over my very high bed and adjusts to the angle I need it to use my computer. The height adjustment is stiff but manageable for me if I put some weight into it. The table tilts easily both ways, and stays in position, so it works on both sides of the bed. It is sturdy and the casters lock in place so that it doesn't roll unexpectedly, but takes a little maneuvering to move out of the way so you can get out of bed. Be sure to keep your crutches or walker within easy reach because, like any other table of its kind, this one will send you sprawling if you use it for balance. |
