I bought this album almost ten years ago (shortly after it was released), and to this day it still brings me great pleasure. I believe I first heard Percy Grainger's piano music in Howard's End (a Merchant Ivory film). I am not interested in movie sound tracks, so I found this recording, which seemed to include a good selection of Grainger's best piano works. Martin Jones does a lovely job in rendering this music with the requisite passion and precision. Grainger's music is sometimes bright and sometimes sad -- there are similarities with Chopin and Federico Mompou -- but it's always clear, never muddied. I think this comes through in Jones's performance.

This is one of my all-time favorite CD's. I had my first copy stolen and I just HAD to get another. It is just wonderful, happy, piano music and exquisitely performed.
