19 years and still rolling,

I bought this disc 19 years ago and I still break it out quite a bit. It was part of a double release and it has some really nice stuff. I think "Carved in Sand" has the better songs on it, but this has some nice Beatle covers, a remake of Tower of Strength as well as a remake of an old Kink's tune. My ex used to love it when I'd play Heaven Sends You. An erotic tune, no doubt. If you like the Mission and for some reason have been hiding under a rock, grab this disc.

Overly Dramatic,

Mission UK was a band with more potential than they ever realized. This collection of alternate versions and leftovers from their Carved in Sand album shows why. Excessively dramatic and maudlin at times, to syrupy and poppy at others.Hands Across the Ocean is probably the best track on here, and it is a decent, not great pop song.

Very good, but not their best,

Grains of Sand is a real lucky dip - some disappointments, some brilliance. It is basically what was left over after they put together their masterpiece 'Carved in Sand'.'Hands Across the Ocean' is a great rock song, 'Bird of Passage' is an epic ballad. 'Mr Pleasant' is just fun. If you like The Mission, then this is a must-have. |
