Complete and Very Useable,

This review is from: The Grammar Bible: Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Grammar but Didn't Know Whom to Ask (Paperback)
Our local library had a copy I checked out a few times until I finally bought my own. It's well worth it, though I also enjoy using "The only grammar book you'll ever need," the "Bible" offers more depth and also retains a high level of readability. I recommend both of these books, this volume for its utter depth and clarity, and the one mentioned above for its succinctness. The authors did a great job and you should be very satisfied with this purchase.

A Writer's Water,

My sister had purchased this book to help her with her grammar. I had no idea that I would start reading this book almost more than she. Despite having taken a rigorous course in grammar in ninth grade (and therefore expecting that this book would not teach me much), this book was very useful for refreshing my memory of grammar guidelines.
The style of the book is vernacular, easy to comprehend, and in no way represents a textbook despite containing more grammar advice that I could find in the average textbook. But I digress. My point, in short, is that this book is the one book that anyone can read, even if you believe you already utilize perfect grammar.

This book is the best reference book I've ever had on Grammar. Comprehensive, yet written so that it is easily accessible to anyone.

Very good resource for anyone who does a lot (not "alot," as the authors would confirm) of writing. Mentions a lot of the mistakes common in the English language. Teaches what we should be (but aren't) learning in government schools.

This book is undoubtedly helpful in its review of common mistakes and readable in its anecdotal approach of giving a series of Q&A that reflect uncertainties that many readers likely share, but it is not by any means "Everything you always wanted to know..." I am now in the market for a real grammar reference like the Cambridge or the Oxford.

The best grammar book you will ever own - for both native and non-native speakers,

This review is from: The Grammar Bible: Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Grammar but Didn't Know Whom to Ask (Paperback)
As a writer and an ESL teacher, I am always looking for great books on English grammar.
With this book, I have found that. And more. This book is the most thorough book on English grammar I have ever found. It also includes the most accurate English usage. One might expect all grammar books to include only the 'most accurate English usage', but this is not true. I have other grammar books that include only 'common parlance' and not the 'strictly correct' usage. Students need to know both - what is correct and what people actually use. For writers, teachers and interested persons whose native language is English, this book is invaluable - meaning, that its personal value for me is so high I cannot put a price on it. The value of this book extends way beyond its book price. It is a book you will want to keep for years. In fact, this is the first grammar book I have purchased since college, (a 'few' years ago). For ESL students (such as those I personally teach), this book is helpful because it is the most thorough reference they will ever need. I mention ESL students but I want to add a caveat. A beginner ESL student may find this book too thorough for their current needs. However, a student who is returning to ESL studies OR a student who is a very quick learner OR who has academic English in mind, will find this book a MUST HAVE.

Perfect for learning how to write,

This book is perfect if you want to actually understand the basics of grammar and utilize them in your writing without having to struggle through any unpractical doctrine. But as most of the other reviews say, it doesn't go into any complexities.

Great!!!,
This review is from: The Grammar Bible: Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Grammar but Didn't Know Whom to Ask (Paperback)
I have read to many different grammar books that are centered mainly on grammar structures and their correct usage, I had been looking for a book that was different from that feature and I think I have found it! It's just great!! It answers you all those questions about grammar that you are always looking for at other books, and it is totally focused on giving you the right and appropiate answer with a bit of joy in its words!
It's just great, though the title is a bit not proper. (It needs more to become a Bible!)

Good but leaves out material from prior edition,

I'd come across a prior edition of this book from 1999 ([...]), and I ordered this copy without realizing that this edition leaves out what I most valued in the prior edition: sentence diagramming.
So long as you aren't looking for sentence diagramming, this edition is fine. It presents the material well.

From time to time, most of us have questions about some particular word usage or grammatical construction. This book can resolve those dilemmas. Clearly written, it is the perfect reference book for anyone who wants to speak or write correctly.
