Book Description

June 2003
NEW REVISED EDITION:
More information helpful to ESL students, more focus on selecting the right verb form, more exercises to help you fine tune each sentence. This book is a revised version of our very popular Grammar For Grownups printed in 1992. Still a complete self-study program in a handy workbook format, it provides the same practical techniques and strategies Advanced Communication designs instructors have taught to business and professional people since 1980. In only eight lessons, you’ll learn to understand the terms used to talk about writing; write complete, clear sentences; use pronouns and verbs correctly; use commas and punctuation correctly; and avoid confusing commonly confused words. It also includes a self-test so you know exactly what you to need to learn, and what you just need to review. Filled with practice exercises with immediate feedback, the book can be used for self-study or as the text for a class.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much Needed!, November 30, 2001
By A Customer
Let me tell you about something embarrassing that happened to me last year. I sent an E-mail to an important client who was angry about a misplaced order. The client replied that he understood what happened and wouldn't hold it against us, which was a relief. Then he pointed out every grammatical error and misplaced comma in my message. For example, I had used "effect" when I meant "affect," and I had created a run-on sentence by using a comma instead of a semicolon. There were other errors as well. After I picked myself up off the floor, I went onto the Internet, looking for help, and I found a great book called Grammar for Grownups. It gave me clear explanations of all those tricky grammar and punctuation rules. It also gave me practice exercises so I could work on my own to improve. Now I proofread every E-mail I send-and now I know what I am looking for.

Grammar for Grownups is an easy to use and very helpful self-paced training program. The lessons are presented clearly with appropriate examples and exercises. Each lesson reviews points of grammar that are basic to good writing.Grammar for Grownups is also a good reference book because it is well organized and therefore it is easy to look up specific topics. Being a busy person, I really appreciate the valuable content and the user-friendly design of this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grammar for Computer People Too!, November 9, 2004
By
This review is from: Grammar for Grownups: A Self-Paced Training Program for People in Business (Paperback)
I'm a programmer, not an English teacher. Now that our company has grown and I'm writing more reports (status, progress, etc.), I felt like I needed to work on my writing. I went through this book in about four hours and did most of the practice exercises. And believe it or not, I am actually feeling much better about my writing now.
