5.0 out of 5 stars A musical keepsake!, July 20, 2003

This review is from: Grammy's Great 2 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Following the Grammy music has been a tradition with me and this collection is quite entertaining. The most special performance has to be Aerosmith doing "Come Together" as a tribute to John Lennon. Who can ever forget the words...... bad production, walrus gumbo... he wear no shoshine, he got toejam football...They do a fantastic job on that Lennon classic.

The 1-hour tape is hosted by Vanessa Williams performing 1993 "Save the Best for Last". She keeps the chit chat to a minimum and we are treated to nonstop musical performances. You get a great glimpse of the audience notables. There is a short break with some moments that weren't musical, like Little Richard who announced the Best New Artist as "me." Steve Martin enters sans his pants, a cute moment with Kris Kristofferson and Moms Mabley. You will see Eddie Murphy and "not leaving without a Grammy."

The performances start with the rousing "We didn't Start the Fire" 1990, Billy Joel. A slew of cultural and historic images become the backdrop. Janet Jackson "What Have You Done For Me Lately", 1987. Janet and dancers shine with impressive choreography. Doobie Brothers, 1980 "What A Fool Believes"; Michael Bolton & Kenny G 1990 "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You"; Huey Lewis and the News 1985 "Heart of Rock N Roll"; k.d. Lang 193 "Constant Craving."

Three other superb performances are Aretha Franklin 1990 "Respect"; Whitney Houston 1989 "One Moment in Time" and the closing heartfelt 1993 "Tears in Heaven" written about his son Connor who died at about four years old.

This is a fine collection of Grammy moments. We need Volume 3 now!....MzRizz
