Visually, GT has been improved over its top selling predecessor. While the cars are graphically the same, the backgrounds are much more detailed and sophisticated. Track design is superb with the addition of a few true to life road courses. As of yet, I have not noticed any pop up which is unbelievable considering the amount of detail involved in this game. The frame rate is pretty consistent although I have encountered slow down (about 20fps) when cornering on a few occasions. This struck me as odd because there was no traffic around at the time. The rally racing option is fantastic and a lot of fun to play. What a great addition to the game!

Experienced GT gamers will find the control identical to the original Gran Turismo. For newcomers to this type of racer, there will probably be about a 1-2 hour learning curve. While many people find the license testing a nuisance, it is ideal for the entry level gamer (or newcomer to GT) to learn the concepts required to be successful in this type of racing sim. For those who are more experienced, many of the tests can be passed in 1-3 attempts.

The variety of cars is unbelievable. The only noticeable absentees are Pontiac and Porsche. Many if not all of the originals have stayed to make a second appearance plus many, MANY new additions. The range in variety of cars is incredible: from VW Beetles to the Vector to super McLaren type cars. One thing that struck me as odd was the varied "model years" of some cars. The 2000 Toyota Celica is present, but GT2 still showcases the '97 Mitsubishi Eclipse and '96 Corvette seen in GT1. The Japanese styled Acura Integra has not been given the "American facelift" in this edition of GT either.

My only serious gripes in this game are the damage/collision factors and the extremely poor AI. How can this game be considered to be the "ultimate racing sim" when a player can slam into another car at 100+mph around a corner and use it as a "cushion" (in order to not have to reduce your speed) to take the turn? It is very disheartening and it takes away from the game. A player should "pay" for reckless driving! Games like TOCA 2 demand responsible driving in addition to offensive and defensive racing techniques. In GT2, you can slam into another car's quarter panel and not have to worry about damage (or damage of any significance if you use the "collision option") or spinning out. There are no accidents and unfortunately, that takes a lot of the excitement away. You can create a monster of a car, and just rip around a track slamming into walls will no ill effects. That doesn't seem right to me. Realism? I think not.

In this edition of Gran Tursimo, there are only 6 cars on track per race (in both the arcade version and simulator version). I would have liked to have seen at least 10-12 cars per race.

My last gripe is the AI, or lack there of. It feels as if I am racing against mindless "drones." Again, the poor AI takes away from the excitement and this problem plagued GT 1 as well. I was hoping it would be corrected this time around.

Despite it's drawbacks, Gran Turismo 2 still remains the greatest racing title to ever grace a home gaming console. It is tremendous fun, and it is highly recommended. My wife even loves it!

I better start buying lottery tickets - because work just seems to be getting in the way of my gaming time!

I recently bought a Playstation specifically to play GT2. Normally I wouldn't have taken the plunge just for one game, but ALL of the reviews were overwhelmingly positive. Plus, I'm a life-long car nut, and I couldn't resist. Well, this game is beyond anything I could have hoped for.

I have never seen a deeper game in my life. The sheer number of cars is astounding, and they're all real-life cars! Everything about the game is great, from graphics to control to sound to music...everything! I read some complaints about graphics bugs and poor AI. The bugs are very minor and don't detract from enjoyment. As far as AI, what do you expect, HAL from "2001"? The opposition is just fine.

The license concept is nice and adds to the realism. Getting to drive everything from a Mini Cooper S to a '69 Camaro Z28 to a Toyota GT One to a 900+hp Suzuki Pikes Peak car is incredible (especially the Suzuki)! Plus there are racing versions of many of the cars, such as a Trans Am version of the Z28. The tracks are great, too. The rendering of Laguna Seca is amazing - the view of the corkscrew on the replay is worth the price of admission!

Do yourself a favor and BUY THIS GAME. If this was the only game available for PSX, it would almost be worth it just to play GT2.

500 cars! Wouldn't the graphics suffer because of that, you might wonder? No way! This one looks just as good and sounds even better. Plus, with old, new and reverse tracks, you get enough to shake a stick at! (40+, and that doesn't even include the dirt tracks for rally-style racing!) You will be playing this for a long time, I guarantee! I've had my copy for a few months now, I have 70 cars in my garage from winning most of the major events and I'm still not even done half of the game! Talk about staying power! If you haven't already done so, buy this game! It may change the way you think about video games. P.S. Best car? Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak Edition. What a monster! The first time you drive this car will no doubt be on one of the license tests as it costs $2,000,000! But once you've saved up enough money, buy it and you'll be laughing all the way to the finish line.

Like it's predecessor, GT-2 will take the gaming market to new heights. GT was the best selling game of 98 for the PlayStation console, and from the looks of things, GT-2 will do even better. With over 400 cars to choose from, from manufacturers FORD, Dodge, Honda, Acura, Chevrolet, Nissan, and many more, the game offers quite a variety of cars to play with and should have a lasting replay value. All the details of the original game are here in the sequel, along with plenty of additions. If you're looking for a GREAT X-mas present for a loved one with a Playstation, this would be it. Oh, and if they don't already have one, you might want to consider getting them a steering wheel controller for their system too.

Gran Turismo 2 has to be the best racing game ever on any system ,and in the top 5 on the Playstation. The graphics are top-notch, the large selection of tracks are the best yet, and the controls make the cars feel as real as they possibly can in a video game. The soundtrack to GT2 rocks hard enough to be sold as its own CD (which it is!),and has drivin' music from Garbage, The Crystal Method, Rob Zombie, and Filter. There are a few minor bugs in the game, evidence that it still wasn't ready after repeated delays--but they don't detract from the game much and you might not even notice them. The bottom line is this: if you like cars, racing, or video games GT2 needs to be in your Playstation. This is the kind of game that you set aside an hour for, wind up playing for 4 hours, and then thinking about playing for the rest of the day.

If you like cars then definately check this game out. There are 594 cars that can be tweaked with just about any modification you can think of. All of the cars are real so you might just find the car that you drive in the game. This is definately going to be one of the best games of the holiday season.

When I Bought the First Gran Turismo, I thought there was no way that any game ever made could possibly be better. Well I was dead wrong. Gran Turismo 2 is SO much better than the original! The biggest improvement is the amount of cars. GT 2 has hundreds upon hundreds of cars, many of them realistic ones alot of us actually drive, such as the VW Beetle and the Dodge Neon. GT 2 also has double the number of racetracks that the original had. GT 2 also has killer music, even better music than the first one (and many people thought the first one had killer music too! ). In conclusion, if you even remotely enjoyed playing the original Gran Turismo, you ABSOLUTLEY must buy Gran Turismo 2. It is the best game ever

It's true! Believe the hype! It's the best video game in the world for car nuts! I have played lots of others, and no other car video game out there offers the variety that this game has. There are 20+ road tracks to race on, and 400+ different vehicles to choose from. What makes this game so great is the ultimate customization of the vehicle you are driving, unless its a pure race car. Almost every manufacturer is represented. The types of cars range from commuter cars, to new and classic muscle cars, to high dollar, exotic hypersports cars. The variety of road courses is excellant: there are enough to keep your interest, but not enough where you can't become familiar with them. For example, purchase a 1969 Chevy Camaro RS Z/28, paint it "hugger orange" with black stripes, add a set of Enkei 5-spoke mags, throw a bunch of speed parts at it, including a 5 speed, cam, headers, etc, sticky tires, reduce its weight, etc. and go race against the other computerized muscle cars, or against the best that Europe and Japan have. The physics are very realistic on the vehicles, as each car handles differently, but just as it would in real life! When you make modifications to the vehicle, it responds just as it would in real life! I have heard of real life examples of people testing out modifications on their cars in GT 2, before trying them out on their real world cars. The graphics are very good also, but not excellant. The attention to detail is commendable for its attempt to maintain realism. The tracks have changes in the surface that you can feel, (if using the analog controler), the weather, season and time of day are all accounted for. The cars are the best part! Take the above mentioned Camaro; when you race at night, the "hideaway" headlights open up. All the right trim and decals are in place, etc. However, its not perfect, when driving from inside the car during a race, the cockpit is not detailed, like it is in "Need for speed," for example. The ultimate proof of how much fun a game is to play, is "how much do you come back to it!" GT2 is one of those games that keeps you coming back again and again! It's just as much fun 5 months later, as it was the first day. In short, its addictive! Sony has come up the "series winning grand slam!" of video driving games, that will be the standard of which all other driving games will be compared! If you love cars, then is a "must have" video game! This 39 year old car nut, never had much interest in video games, though my 50 year old neighbor and I would play "John Madden Football", "Need for Speed", and a few others occasionally. Forget "poker night", or "Boys night out", we've got a monthly tournament that we set up with a couple of other "gearheads" in the neighborhood. I can't wait till Playstation 2, and "Gran Turismo 2000" come to this country in the fall. Playing this game on broadband, with anyone in the world, in real time is an exciting prospect. I'm done now. In summmary, "Get this game!" its the next best thing to actually being there!

Gran Turismo 2 represents a new kind of breed for the racingtheme. It offers real life simulation of things we can only imaginewhile watching television. The game offers a ton of cars, which you can modify to its limits, as long as money allows...These cars are representing American Models, Not Import models from the first. Also ...a coilover system costs 2,000 dollars but add to that all the things you can customize. Yes the liscensing system on the new one if fairly easy. That is if your an experienced driver from Gran Turismo. The game offers plenty of races that you can earn alot of money. My suggestion for those who don't want to earn little money at a time. Go where all the big boys are and race real races which you recieve up to $350,000 plus cars you can sell for $500,000 when you when the race. As for the controls of the game, Solid 5 star rating. The reason its difficult is to give a real simulating feel. Good job SONY! and Polyphony! And another thing I've only complete 53%of the game. Had it for 4 days and it's been a blast. Also I've completed all the races Gran Turismo 2 offers as a standard. Each Manufacturers have their own little events that I haven't completed yet. My Advice buy this game if your looking for real driving simulation. There is one Flaw To the game though. Cars seem to merge into each other, This had made me loose a couple events. So watch out for that, who knows maybe sony will release a new version that doesn't do that.

Gran Turismo 2 is by far the most addictive game I have ever played.

Be warned you will not want to do anything for days after purchasing GT2, you will be so into the game the outside world will seem but a distant thought, friends, family, and even Fido will wonder where you went off to.

This game is more than a game, it is probably the last great game the Playstation 1 will see until it is forsaken for Playstation 2.

GT2 is worth twice what you would pay for it since you'll be playing it for a long while, this isn't a game you can sit down and finish in an hour, nor is it a game you can walk away from without feeling like doing one more lap.

The original was addictive enough with 400+ cars, however this time Polyphony Digital and Sony have really made it more than special by going absolutely crazy with the sheer amount of cars nearing the 600 mark that can be bought, won, and modified.

This game also has a practical reason, imagine test driving a car before going to the dealership for an actual real life test drive, it's now possible. Imagine seeing your car all modified to the max in a game without spending any real cash.

GT2 has so many pluses that they would take forever to mention, however the first initial batch released did contain some bugs that Sony supposedly is fixing or has fixed for future shipments. With that aside, the bugs are nothing grand and they don't take anything away from the game and it's experience. If you're a racing fan of circuit driving buy GT2, this isn't some Nascar game that makes you drive senselessly in circles.

Though the game still lacks many American cars like Grand Ams, etc., there are enough American powerhouses in the game to suffice like Mustangs, Corvette's and Camaros.
