Great remixes of already great songs, June 27, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Gran Turismo Overdrive (Audio CD)
This remix import needs a better review, not just to make it look better, but because it actually deserves it. I was not really a fan of the Cardigans until I heard the Gran Turismo album which a friend of mine had. I instantly fell in love with the album. And coming from someone who's mostly into R&B and some Dance/Techno, this is one of my FAVORITE albums. The album is one that I could never get tired of. I think it's great and I am guessing just about anyone would enjoy it if given a listen. I was very excited to learn that there was a remix EP including some of the songs from Gran Turismo. It's been several months since I've had it, but I did want to say that the remixes are great. All, of course, are remixed by Naid and seem to be more "upbeat" than the album versions. The only "remix" that is about the same tempo as it's album version is "Hanging around." Other songs such as "Erase/Rewind" and "My favourite game" have all been sped up and extended a bit, which I think makes them even better since they last LONGER. This collection is actually at a very nice price and I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the Cardigan's Gran Turismo album. Hope this review helped someone out.

The Cardigans boost the best remixes EVER!!!, September 29, 2000
I can really recommend this CD. The remixer a swedish guy called Nåid has really captured the entire essense of these 5 cardigans songs and given them a new spectacular underground house sound. Here follows a review of each song! 1. My Favourite Game: The remix has an air of Jazzy cool beats with a really cool trumpet in it. 2. Erase/rewind: Cool R&B / Soul inspired music. It really is dance- able. With great special effects on Nina's voice. 3. Higher: Total underground electronica meets a beautiful symphonic orchestra. Bleeps, space noises and squeals everywhere. 4. Hanging Around: Almost better than the original track, a really cool 'classic rock'- style, distortioned drum beat sets the mood and the special Hanging Around - theme is present.Really melancholic deep music. 5. Junk Of The Hearts: the most commercial track / it's like an ordinary remix - nothing speacial there. Yet, i'ts one of the best remixes i've heard. What's so good about this CD is that the remixes doesn't sound like remixes, they could very well be songs of their own. Very Interesting and deeply Captivating.

Cardigans for anoraks, February 13, 2009
This review is from: Gran Turismo Overdrive (Audio CD)
If you're reading this you probably know already that The Cardigans' career is one of pop's treasure trails. For me, there are two essential tracks here. This version of 'Higher' wraps simple pop optimism in uneasy desolation: in my opinion, this ambiguity characterises the Cardigan's more mature work. I rate this 'Higher' a sraight upgrade to the album version. 'Hanging Around' is here transformed into something deeper, rumbling and menacing - another Cardigan characteristic found in, for instance, the outstanding later track 'Godspell'. I can just about put up with Junk Of The Heart, here given an aimless disco makeover pushing it into musak territory.
