Book Description

May 15, 1998 Campaign
By 1481 Granada was the last Islamic enclave in Catholic Spain. Granada's last ruler, Muhammad XII 'Boadbil', faced the might of the Spanish royal army revitalised and lavishly equipped with modern artillery. Despite this mismatch of strength it took 11 years of hard campaigning before the Spanish troops could bring their guns to bear on the walls of Granada. After this the outcome could not be long delayed. Andalusia, the physical embodiment of the flowering Islamic culture in Spain, was snuffed out. The commanders, forces, plans and campaign itself are all examined closely in this superbly illustrated account of 'Los Reyes Catolicos' greatest victory.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nothing new but well worth the reading, June 21, 2000
This review is from: Granada 1492 (Campaign Series Number 53) (Paperback)
It's not exactly an introduction into the whole 'reconquista' issue but rather concluding remarks focused on the betrayal of Granada, the last remaining Muslim enclave in the Iberian peninsula.

But it's worth the reading for it clearly shows the advantage of Spanish artillery and the disadvantage of Muslim disunity. Read other books on the similar subject first before tackling this one.

This review is from: Granada 1492 (Campaign Series Number 53) (Paperback)
This is a good sturdy effort about the conquest of the Last Muslim Kingdom in the Iberian Peninsula by the Combined Crowns of Spain. But is the Late Angus McBrides Illustrations that makes it (The Book) worthy of buying!
