5.0 out of 5 stars What a wonderful book! I highly suggest it...
Please don't let the biased views on this book deter you. It is a beautiful book, from a creation viewpoint. How strange that people feel the need to give such lengthy opinions with judgmental cricicism. The pictures are lovely and clearly a creation science is being presented. They description doesn't pretend otherwise. Christians are entitled to believe in creation,...

1.0 out of 5 stars Ouch!
Note to the authors of this book: There is no such thing as the "Evolutionary Geologic Column" (page 36). The geological column and evolution are two ideas independent of one another. They do not rely solely on one another for support. This is one example of several delusions about geology and evolution in this book. The only people this book is going to fool are...

I first saw this book in my Optometrist's office and wanted to smuggle it out! I looked at enough of it to make me want to know more about the formation of this world wonder which I'm lucky enough to have in my State. Much food for thought no matter what your beliefs are, creation or evolution. And presented in an easy-to-follow way with beautiful photos. Highly recommended to anyone. It's a keeper for every book shelf, but mostly in your hands!

5.0 out of 5 stars It is a "different view," just as advertised., February 4, 2004
By
This review is from: Grand Canyon: A Different View (Hardcover)
Tom has compiled a delightful book replete with exquisite Canyon images. Yes, it has Biblical scriptures and religious speech; yes it has scientific content, and yes, there is dispute about whether it offers "good" or "bad" science. The basic premise is that the Canyon was formed in a short period of time from a catastrophic flood, rather than over the ages via a wandering rivulet. And yes, that is a "creationist" view. But the scientists who cry "bad!, bad!, ban that book!" are playing censor a bit prematurely, particularly in light of the half-century controversy over the "scablands" in eastern Washington. In that instance, a renegade scientist proposed that a huge eroded region resulted from a single, catastrophic flood, only to be insulted and excluded from the "good" science community. But he persevered, and fifty years later was vindicated by high honors and general scientific acceptance of his theory. Frankly, the complainers' position is a perilous one--even arch evolutionists like Stephen Jay Gould have largely dismissed classic evolution in favor of catastrophic change theories. For the scientists to blindly endorse their secular orthodoxy is as silly as a person thoughtlessly endorsing theology. All Tom asks is that readers look at the Canyon from a different view, and see what they see..... And hey, if you want to experiment a little, go find a broad, muddy ditch, build a dirt dam and see what happens when it washes away--chances are that you'll see a muddy miniature Canyon. Gee, maybe Tom has a point after all?

this is a truly beautiful book--both photographically and spiritually. amazing views of the life and structure of the grand canyon and the story it holds. the intermingling of Scripture serves to strengthen the story and make for that "different view."

5.0 out of 5 stars Grand Canyon is the result of catastrophic processes., January 17, 2004
This review is from: Grand Canyon: A Different View (Hardcover)
Could the Grand Canyon have been formed through the action of astronomical quantities of water? The authors of this book have dished out some rather weighty evidence which deserves to be understood rather than censored. Did you know that on the north side of Mount St. Helens there is a particularly deep canyon which was carved out within just nine hours on March 19, 1982? The horizontal layering effect which occured there is much the same as what is seen at the Grand Canyon, and this in itself is strong evidence supporting the idea that catastrophic processes can stack together horizontal sedimentary layers. There is conclusive evidence that every layer at the Grand Canyon was formed under water, and this shows that a multi-phase Flood could well have been the responsible agent for what we now know to be the Grand Canyon. If you've not heard this side of the story before, you should definitely invest in this intriguing book which provides a large amount of evidence demonstrating that the Grand Canyon is the product of catastrophic processes within a relatively short period of time. We all have the same data to look at-- and what a view it is! The interpretation of that data brings one to an understanding of what was behind the building up of the geological column. Could it be that the present-day geologists' interpretation that "the present is the key to the past" might be missing something quite significant? At least consider looking at ALL the evidence before writing off the ideas of those who hold a different view.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Excellent Book Offering an Atlernative View, January 9, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Grand Canyon: A Different View (Hardcover)
Those who adhere to a naturalistic, evolutionary paradigm will not be happy with this book, because it offers people a look at alternative interpretations of science. Many naturalistic evolutionists want to be people's brains for them, and thus they campaign heavily against refreshing books like "Grand Canyon: A Different View."

The photographs of the Grand Canyon are amazing, and the content is written mostly by scientists which hold doctorate degrees in various fields of science. The book indeed offers solid science based on the hypothesis that the Canyon was formed relatively quickly by vast amounts of water. The evidence for this view really is quite solid, and this book gives a nice summary of it.

It's too bad that people want to censor books like this, and trash them simply because it disagrees with their deeply held presuppositions about the Canyon. I think books like this one are desperately needed today, as more and more we are seeing the naturalistic evolutionists attempting to quiet the Creation movement and force people to see only one side. I urge you to not let that happen, and order this book. It will allow you to have a balanced look at all evidence, and then you with your own mind can decide which position you believe.

This book deserves no less than five stars. Anyone who gives it one or two stars is being ridiculous, obviously, and are the kind of people that I have described in this review.

The wonders of God's hand through the power of cataclysm are portrayed here. The Grand Canyon book store can't keep them on the shelf. I appreciate their willigness to stock the book alongside the creation tradition of other cultures (Native American).

5.0 out of 5 stars Grand display of God's Beauty, September 9, 2007
This review is from: Grand Canyon: A Different View (Hardcover)
There's something in this book that everyone can appreciate, whether it's simply the gorgeous pictures, the scientific explanations of the Canyon animals and their habits, or the lovely Scripture featured throughout. Some of the naysayers need to lighten up! It honestly surprises me that so many buck at this book, even a couple of Christians; sure, it offers Creationist theories, but it was written by Christians. Is this surprising?

This book is made of several parts: photographs of the Grand Canyon, essays from scientific Christians who believe the Great Flood caused the Canyon, descriptions of the lives of animals and plants living in the Canyon, Scripture paired with some of the photographs, and even a few essays by Christians explaining their reasons for believing in Creation rather than evolution or the Big Bang Theory.

Some may take issue with this last feature, but again, I'd remind them this book is Christian: why shouldn't its creators explain why they believe what they do? As to the rebuttal of the Big Bang theory, I think John MacArthur explained it best in the excerpt from his excellent sermon, in which he said, "If you don't believe in the Book of Genesis, then you are left with the incredible notion that nobody times nothing equals everything." Granted, I know this alone could never convert a person to a believer just like that, but I think it's an excellent summation of the Big Bang Theory's impracticalities.

Admittedly, a few things in the book are heavy-handed; a hard-core critical thinker would no doubt be thoroughly exasperated by the author's claim that the rock nettle (a sharp flower that grows around the Canyon) is probably a direct result of Eden's curse, or the comparison of raven couples to God's design for husbands and wives (provider and helpmate). However, if you're easily offended by such things, I'd suggest you either simply enjoy the pictures or avoid the book altogether. I, for one, love them.

If you're a Christian, on the other hand, I recommend this without reservation. There are plenty of things to put awe in your heart, particularly the pictures of the Canyon's wild beauty and the poetic Scripture that pays testimony to God's Hand. This is a beautiful book that is definitely worth considering!

The reviews I've read on this book are basically not reviews of the book. They are people saying whether or not they agree with and believe the creationist standpoint or the evolutionist standpoint. Creationists give 5 stars and evolutionists give 1 star. Hilarious. Creation scientists hold the same PhD's as other scientists and their studies deserve serious consideration. I loved the book. It is real science. Anyone wanting more of the same can see the Institute for Creation Research materials.
