Book Description

April 28, 2008
It’s an alarming if little-known fact: one of the world’s mightiest rivers, the Colorado, no longer reaches the sea. Every drop of its water is allocated to agriculture and communities along the way and none remains for the Colorado Delta at river’s end, a once-thriving estuary that supported North America’s most diverse biosphere. Grand Canyon: A River at Risk draws attention the river’s plight as well as to the larger issue of the looming global water crisis. It follows Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a leading advocate for water conservation and river restoration, eminent ethnobotanist Wade Davis, and their two daughters on a rafting adventure down the Colorado. Their compelling journey illuminates both the challenges and the many opportunities that exist for conserving and restoring the world’s watersheds. Combining science and adventure with glorious imagery and locations, the book delivers a message of hope and inspiration for all people of the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars At Last!, June 21, 2009
This review is from: Grand Canyon: A River at Risk (Hardcover)
Of all of the books I've looked at I've never seen one that could really capture the Grand Canyon, until now. The photography is a masterful collection that shows just how vast the canyon really is. The words are mostly written by one of my favorite authors (Wade Davis) who seems to always be able to make the imagination take over, and at times you forget you are reading a book. The book contains pieces from the Imax, but like books do, it extends far beyond the reach of any movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grand Canyon amazing, February 9, 2009
This review is from: Grand Canyon: A River at Risk (Hardcover)
I saw the movie about the making of this book at an IMAX 3D. If you can't go to the Grand Canyon this is the movie for you. The book is beautiful. We changed our plans from a cruise to a trip to the grand canyon based on the movie. I have ordered that as well. I can't express enough just how spectacular the pictures are and the information about the enviroment and how it is changing and not for the better. I would give this book more stars if I could.

5.0 out of 5 stars rants are not reviews, October 17, 2010

This review is from: Grand Canyon: A River at Risk (Hardcover)
Books are difficult to produce, and in the case of beautiful illustrated editions they involve the hard work of scores of dedicated people. Amazon reviews are important; the rankings are watched. It is not right that a rant, in this case a response to a film, should be allowed to register as if a serious appraisal of a book that is quite independent of the film.
