3.0 out of 5 stars The Canyon is grand; the book is good, June 26, 2009

This review is from: Grand Canyon: The Tail of the Scorpion (Adventures with the Parkers) (Paperback)
It's hard to rate this book - as a guidebook, it's great. If you and your family are going to the Grand Canyon, are in it, or have just returned, it packs a lot of information into an easy to read, enjoyable format with great illustrations/photos. (As an adult I got helpful information before a recent hike, and I also enjoyed looking at the book again at home for the "I was there!" shots.) However, if you are looking for an exciting children's book, for me it missed the mark. The characters are dull, not because they are "good kids" which is refreshing, but because the dialogue is flat and the adventures quite predictible. Knowing the strengths and weaknesses of the book, hopefully, will be helpful to you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun with the Parkers!!!, October 13, 2008
This review is from: Grand Canyon: The Tail of the Scorpion (Adventures with the Parkers) (Paperback)
My wife and I recently took our 3rd grade daughter on a trip to Grand Canyon and Zion National Parks. We found 2 of the "Parkers" books in the Zion Visitor's Center and got them for our daugher. After she finished the first book, she very excitedly came to her mother and I to tell us about how good it was!!! Very high praise indeed...She also informed us that this author should be one that her school invites to their annual Literacy Festival where the school invites a couple of authors in with their works to speak to the kids. The school principal let me know this is the first time a kid has suggested a particular author. High praise indeed.
