5.0 out of 5 stars Have Murs, Scarub & Eligh EVER Come This Tight?
This quite possibly may be the best starting point in the enormous catalog of the Living Legends crew. Why, you ask? It's a straight banger. Full of memorable beats, ill flows, and unmatchable chemistry. You don't have to try too hard with this record. From front to back, this album is straight goose bump producing entertainment. im a big fan of the legends but this cd sucks. the rhymes are tight but the beats are just whack. eligh needs to change up his style and stop making these weird beats that all sound alike. this cd didnt cut it the first time i listened to it, and it didnt grow on me either. whatever, thats just my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Have Murs, Scarub & Eligh EVER Come This Tight?, January 31, 2008
This review is from: Grand Caravan To The Rim Of The World (Audio CD)
This quite possibly may be the best starting point in the enormous catalog of the Living Legends crew. Why, you ask? It's a straight banger. Full of memorable beats, ill flows, and unmatchable chemistry. You don't have to try too hard with this record. From front to back, this album is straight goose bump producing entertainment. There are zero guest rappers here, which keeps it focused. Murs, Scarub & Eligh have all been around since the mid-90s, and all have notably excellent solo careers. And these guys play off each other excellently. Murs has had the most popular career out of the three, bringing more of an average guy mentality to the mix, while Eligh & Scarub are a little more on the abstract tip. It makes for an exciting mix.

The alluring part about this formula is that all three emcees seem to be trying to out-rap each other. All three emcees are on point, delivering flows with speed, precision and hunger. It's a true display of skill. Honestly, I've never heard Eligh rap as fierce as he does on "Halo", and I've never heard Scarub drop heat like he does on "Nautilus", and Murs is back spitting lyrics faster than he has in years. They take the time to slow things down a touch on the astrology flavored "Signs" and the lovely "And If". Eligh produces every track in the bunch, and solidifies his spot as one of the best producers in the game.

Overall, if you have yet to discover the wealth of talent the Living Legends have to offer, look no further than the 3 Melancholy Gypsys. This is one crew that proves that hip-hop is not dead. Don't miss out on one of the best from the west.

Everything you can expect from some of the most talented cats from the LIVING LEGENDS crew. Pure hip hop enjoyment. Eligh's production has shown growth and remains high on the nod factor. Another high point would be that the lyrics are written down in the booklet, which is simply dope especially now-a-days w/all these critics in hip hop. Hope this was helpful. Peace!

5.0 out of 5 stars Get Naked For Jesus, May 18, 2006
This review is from: Grand Caravan To The Rim Of The World (Audio CD)
My lord if this isn't the best music album ever made it damn well is the best hip hop album ever made. 10 Years in the making, these guys got together in Hamilton High in LA and have been doin other projects since, they finally got together to make this one and it is a true gem of an album. Eligh's production is simply amazing on every track, he has turned himself into a musical production genious and crafted a masterpiece for the 3 of them to destroy, which they do. I really can't say enough just how beautiful and crackin his beats on this album are, and his flows made me jump out of my seat. On their own they are dope, but finally together they are something to behold in hip hop. I shouldn't have to tell you about Murs cause he's everywhere, if you listen to underground hip hop you already know about him, but he is on point on this album. Scarub rips every verse the way he does, hella off beat and hella dope. DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS ALBUM!!!! you are only cheating yourself, if you're a legends fan then you should be ashamed of yourself and get on the caravan before it's too late. This has been in my top 2 cd rotation since it came out and was all I listened to for the first month after it's release. GET THIS ALBUM!!!! best songs...all of them :) peace

4.0 out of 5 stars Mystical and atmospheric, August 8, 2005

I appreciate the effort that the three put into this. They seem focused throughout. Murs is on a completely different level, one that I didn't think he'd ever care to be on anyway. Some may find "Grand Caravan" to be among the very top Hip Hop albums of the year. Others may give it a listen then place in their collection somewhere, and never look back. For the record, I think it's up there pretty high.
The strongest aspect of this album also happens to be its weakness. That is, how CONSISTENT this album is. All three seem to be on the same page throughout, and the songs all feel cohesive. On that note though, none of the songs truly stand out or give the album enough variety. Eligh did an applaudable job with the production, although he nearly bordered the line with the digital sounds he likes to use. Like the title of my review says, the whole album has a very mystical and somewhat spiritual vibe to it.
Although they touch on a variety of topics, nothing really is surprising and no risks were taken. "The Plannit" is a great song, and the first that really stands out. "Chant" I like to refer to as the 'Gypsies Book of Parables,' and is very tight. The other standouts can be the last four full songs (#'s 14-17), "Beautiful Mind" being the most memorable. "Signs" and "3 Rings" are other great songs. No one song is terrible and not one feels out of place. Like I said, that's also kind of it's downfall though. It's obvious that they're running through the motions on songs like "Countdown" and "Halo."
This album is a chance to hear Murs at his rare introspective, poetic, and authoritative best. Obviously, he is the star of the album. Scarub was suprisingly subdued and forgettable for majority of the album, and he was my favorite Legend coming into this. Eligh is even more invisible lyrically, maybe because he spent most of his time on the beats. Eligh even distorts his voice on a NUMBER of tracks, and it gets quite annoying. Perhaps it's because he has nothing good or new to say. Anyways, these boys can do Hip Hop exactly as it should be, and the album is definitely applaudable. Depending on your mood, you're either gonna sink right in with this, or it's gonna bore you to sleep. No matter what, it's still worthy of the purchase any day.

What to say about this album? The beats are original, the lyrics are original, and ha, their name is original. This album is superb in so many ways. I'm a huge fan of MURS and he doesn't disappoint on here. Lyrics and flow are top notch as usual. Eligh does a great job in his production. It's dreamy with all kinds of funky noises. And of course, Eligh's flow is tight as always with that Outkast (of old) similar style. And surprisingly, Scarub, who is usually offbeat when he flows, comes correct with this album. I was kind of worried that he might've messed up the flow of some of the songs with his usually unorthodox style, but my hats are off to him for flowing on par with the beat with some tight lyrics. Honestly, I wish he would rap like this all the time! Anyway, this album is an underground classic that should not be slept on!

The subject matter on this album keeps everything new and refreshing. The song Landing is so interesting for the fact that they talk about UFOs and life on other planets, something that is RARELY heard on a rap album. Speaking of rare, they even dedicate the song Beautiful Mind to Johnny Cash! Words cannot express how much admiration and pride I feel about this cd. They really don't care what people think about them. They are just being their honest selves, which is keeping it realer than the real a lot of the studio gangsters and bling bling rappers of the radio stations claim. We need more rappers like these!

If you are a fan of any of these guys, then you will love this album. Commercial and mainstream rap is really putting a bad name for hip hop these days. However, Hip Hop is nowhere near dead when an album like this comes out. You just have to dig deeper to find the good stuff. Do the research and enjoy!!

These 3 emcees all work together to form a very good album. Eligh produces some dope ass beats and also shows us sometimes that he does have some lyricals for us to hear. Murs is a god to underground music and you can tell why on this CD. The third member of 3MG is Scarub who is often overlooked. Scarub perfoms well on this CD and is making a name for himself. Overall this CD is very good. If you can find it, cop it.
Top Trax: Halo, the Plannit, 3 men marching
Most overlooked track: And If

all three are on a whole new level on this album. eligh on production (his emceeing is equal to standards set past). scarub is shinning, I've always not been a huge fan of him in particular. and murs is f-ing on the moon, he's never brought flow this hard. cop this. ...now. go do it. I'm serious. just trust me, okay? this is one of the best LL albums, and that's coming from a guy who puts Lucky at the top of that super crew. so cool. what are you doing later? wanna hang out?

This is definitly going to be the underground hip hop album of the year. The music on this album is simply amazing. After listening to the whole thing through once, i knew there was something special about it.This crew has a masterpiece on their hands. Eligh's production on the album is stellar. It's obvious that Murs, Scarub, and Eligh put a lot of love into this record. If you love hip hop you will love this album. To the Rim of the World!

4.0 out of 5 stars I hope this is not slept on, June 29, 2005
This review is from: Grand Caravan To The Rim Of The World (Audio CD)
This group was the genesis of the legends crew. I'm glad they got together again and didn't forget their roots. Lots of time has passed but they still capture that spirit of crunchy concious backpacking boom bap that I'm sure was alive when they started rapping. Legends albums are rarely consistent in terms of quality from track to track within the album itself. However, this album was a lot more consistent than I was expecting, but its still not skip proof. If you claim to love "real hip-hop," then show some real support with your pocketbook and cop this.
