A heart-warming concert,
This review is from: The Grand Cayman Concert (Audio CD)
I am a fan of America, and I own every album/CD that they released. I am pleased to listen to this live CD, as it gives me a heart-warming feeling like meeting with old friends. Most of the songs were simply played with acoustic guitars, and showed good harmony. It appears to me that throughout these 30 years, there is little change in the voice of Gerry and Dewey. But I miss the voice of Dan Peek. If he had performed in this conert, the sound would be richer and more harmonic. Anyway, this set of songs perfected America as one of the leading folk-rock band.

I was very pleased with this live CD. Some real gems to be found here...Windwave, All My Life, The Pidgeon Song, and all the classics like Sister Golden Hair, A Horse With No Name, Daisy Jane, make this a great concert in an intimate setting. The harmonies and acoustic guitars really shine, breathing new life to these timeless songs. I highly recommend this CD to any fans of America.

"A Touch Of Accoustic Heaven" Get Ready to be Carried Away!,
By
This review is from: The Grand Cayman Concert (Audio CD)
Hi!I would definitely say this is a Must Have for sure! I have been a fan of AMERICA's music for almost 31 yrs.now. Hearing Gerry & Dewey do these great songs in all accoustics just takes my breathe away. The sound of these songs are sooo crisp and clear that You will feel like you were swept away to the Cayman Islands to take this in Live. Gerry will simply melt you with Daisy Jane, I Need You, Baby It's Up to You, and what a special treat to hear his heart touching ballad All My Life, I especially loved getting to hear To Each His Own & Another Try ~ both are early AMERICA favorites of mine for sure. Dewey too will touch you with Three Roses, Tin Man & what a surprise when you hear him sing Pigeon Song after all these years. The song Windwave was soo appropriate for this concert setting. It is always nice to hear Riverside, Ventura Hwy, these sound sooo great done just accoustically, Sister Golden Hair & Only in Your Heart will have you singing along, and Sandman will take you higher yet.... and then there is Horse With No Name the song that started this all those years ago. It still can capture you and have you singing along just like that. Sooooo if you Love AMERICA's music as much as I do, or if you haven't heard them for awhile and want to recapture the Magic ~~ I would say go ahead and order this Masterpiece now. I am sure you will Love it too, and if you are like me You can never get enough of their music for sure. Thanks Gerry & Dewey, and Hank Leiberman for making this Special event into a CD for all of us to Enjoy! Nancy :)

I was so pleased and so impressed with the musical talent that Dewey and Gerry generate live on this cd....without any flaws. I have never heard them by themselves until this cd. Got an autographed copy from Music Boulevard. I highly recomend this recording...The acoustics were wonderful and the vocals were perfect. A must for any real America fan!

For those that care, this cd is encoded as a HDCD, so if you have a HDCD compatible player, this album just sparkles!Anyway, it is a great recording and performance of just Gerry and Dewey on acoustic guitars and piano. You will not miss the band, these guys can do it all! A very special recording. I don't know why record labels don't label HDCD's as such when they sell them.

I was hoping for a more intimate sound since it was just the two of them with their guitars. But with the venue being what it was, it sounds like their other live albums just without the rest of the band. But they do a good job with the songs. I believe this is the only official release of the extended version of "Riverside", so that should be justification enough for America fans to pick up the CD. It also has several other songs not found on any other live CD such as "Windwave", "Baby It's Up To You", and the classic "Three Roses". It is a good album and a must for America fans, but it was just not what I was hoping for.

Beckley and Bunnell Prove their Virtuosity,

This review is from: The Grand Cayman Concert (MP3 Download)
This is an amazing acoustic set, played by just Bunnell and Beckley and no one else, usually on two guitars, but occasionally on one guitar and one piano. The sound is crisp, the voices are as good as ever, and the two produce a tight live set that, while it is a little short, is nothing short of superb.I grew up listening to America as produced by George Martin--lots of strings, horns and so forth. This is basically America stripped--and it proves what excellent musicians these two guys are. I could have done without the occasional over-enthusiastic fan 'whooping' during this recording, but such are the perils of live albums. Two thumbs up!

America Unplugged,
By
This review is from: The Grand Cayman Concert (Audio CD)
This live colection is a two-man 'unplugged' effort - just Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell, two voices and two acoustic guitars (or one guitar and piano in some instances) - but the sound is surprisingly full given the sparse instrumentation. The set draws heavily on the first two America albums from the early 70s when they were a trio (Dan Peek's been absent for thirty years now) but the songs still work wonderfully in spite of that missing voice. And the fun part is - you can add your own part to re-create the original three-part harmonies. If you've ever been a fan, you'll enjoy this.
