5.0 out of 5 stars Good, clean fun for the kids!
As I watched this movie I couldn't help but remember my own "farm kid" shock of finding out where most of those calves we raised end up, and this movie kind-of lives out the fantasy of a kid's intervention and everything ending up okay in the end.

3.0 out of 5 stars One word describes this movie...HOKEY!!!
And no I'm not talking about the steer. I really wanted to like this movie...my two boys (age 6 and 2) really enjoyed it. It's set in Texas, so of course I wanted to love it that much more. There are some serious megastars and old rodeo has-beens, which is another reason I grabbed it at the video rental store. The plot just seems so strained and contrived. No one...

Great movie for the kids or family- nice and clean and just plain, simple fun! They don't try to complicate the storyline or adventure- so Mom & Dad, keep that in mind and don't over analyze it. Let the kids smile with the kids in the film as they frolick & play and enjoy the chase scenes with the "bad guy".
For myself, I specifically remember one particular shot of the steer, I believe it was as they entered an arena. Whoever decided on that shot...it was amusing & I liked it- you did good!!
There are movies geared for the younger kids and movies geared for adults- this one's geared for the kids. They'll laugh & they'll enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't take it too Seriously, April 25, 2005
This review is from: Grand Champion (DVD)
This movie is all about family and fun, while learning the lessons we sometimes encounter in life. Depending on the age of the viewer, all will take something away from it. My two year old embraces the music, the children starring in the film, and especially "that cow". I was touched by the love of this family working together and learning responsibility, while competing in livestock shows; something that my family does in real life. Take the movie for what it is...good hearted, fun, and sometimes just a little silly!

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent family entertainment, February 27, 2005

I have a four year old boy and a six year old girl and both of them just adore this movie. The movie is very wholesome, sweet natured and old fashioned. However, it still holds my kids' attention for the entire length of the movie. The first time I watched it, I was a little more critical. I was bothered by some gaping holes in the plot and thought some of the musical interludes with the kids dancing etc. were goofy. However, the kids loved it so much that I bought the DVD when it came out. After watching it again, I was no longer bothered by the relatively minor flaws and instead focused on the incredibly sweet story about the family and the strong messages the movie conveyed about the importance of family, self reliance, sportsmanship and the relative lack of importance of material wealth. All in all, as a family movie, Grand Champion is almost perfect. It is a low tech, low budget equivalent of the best of the Pixar movies.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Grand Champion (DVD)
My mom bought 10 copies of this movie to give to all my friends. She said she is tired of spending money on movies and games that are a bad influence on me and my friends. I really liked this movie and LOVED all the animals. Especially Hokey.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, a great family movie, January 26, 2005
This review is from: Grand Champion (DVD)
Although adults will enjoy this movie, it really deals with issues kids relate to: friendship, bullying, child/parent relationships, joy of childhood, love of animals, responsibilities of growing up. Children become absorbed in this movie and consequently absorb its many positive lessons. My kids loved it. And the shots of the West Texas landscape are fantastic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Family Entertainment !!!, January 25, 2005
This review is from: Grand Champion (DVD)
This is one of the best family films ever made, and certainly the undisputed "Grand Champion" for films about the State of Texas or livestock competitions (ala 4-H or FFA for youngsters). Great cast, superb music, touching ending... it's an ideal video!

This is an excellent movie for families. It is a great story about a young man and his journy while trying to save his cow. If Walt Disney had lived in West Texas, he would have made this movie.

Whether you're young or just young at heart, Grand Champion is a treasure to be enjoyed by all ages over and over again. I honestly don't know who had more fun -- me while I watched this or the cast and crew while they filmed it. This is a great story with an amazing cast and a super soundtrack. Order more than one copy, you'll want to share this one...
