5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful reading
Marco and Polo were the housecats of Mr. and Mrs. Neal. However, the Neals did not know the two cats could talk. After all, it did not sound like English to the humans. Marco could also read! The cats had been trained not to go outside but Marco escaped once for an hour. Due to that, and Marco reading about something called a "ranch", the two cats carefully planned their...

2.0 out of 5 stars For Younger Readers
I had to read this book for school and thought it was going to be pointless and cheezy . . . I was somewhat right! The book is about two house cats, Marco and Polo, who have a dream of going to a ranch. They run away from home and want to join the Club of Mysteries. To be able to join they have to figure out three great mysteries, like 'when it rains where does the...

Marco and Polo were the housecats of Mr. and Mrs. Neal. However, the Neals did not know the two cats could talk. After all, it did not sound like English to the humans. Marco could also read! The cats had been trained not to go outside but Marco escaped once for an hour. Due to that, and Marco reading about something called a "ranch", the two cats carefully planned their escape into the world. Neither knew all the hardships they would face, nor the wonderful adventures they would have.

*** A delightful tale that is perfect for a child's first chapter book. Great for ages 8 - 14. Here is one that will be read and reread many times, and never to be forgotten! ***

5.0 out of 5 stars An exciting book for cat lovers, August 20, 2000
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Grand Escape (Paperback)
My name is Morgan and I am in fifth grade. I thought this book was the best book ever, especially if you like cats! My favorite part was when the cats stepped outside, and their people poured water on them, and the cats thought it was raining. This book is funny and exciting.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books I have read., June 17, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Grand Escape (Paperback)
The Grand Escape is about two cats named Marco and Polo and how they get into the Club of Mysteries, a group of cats that solve mysteries, such as what controls masters and what makes the sun rise and set. The plot sucks you in and keeps you reading. It's funny and adventurous, and if you're a cat lover, you'll like it even more. There are other books in the series, too, The Healing of Texas Jake is the second one, and there's another one called Carlotta's Kittens. I hope there are more! I think cat lovers of all ages would enjoy this book. I'm an 8 year old girl (Mom's typing this for me!), but I think boys would enjoy it as much as girls.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ranch Cats, November 21, 1998
By A Customer
This story basically begins when Marco (the smart one...who can read) reads a newspaper article on ranches as it cover his litter box. Then, when he finally goes in the side yard for an hour. Polo, stupid enough to actually believe that beyond the fence is a ranch, as Marco protests. Soon enough, they escape to find allies and city, so they go to grab a bite to eat. There they meet Carlotta, a she-cat who gives them a tour of the city. Later on, when they have nowhere to sleep, she finds them and lets them in on the Club of Mysteries, solving all the cat mysteries in the world, like why do humans only have hair on their head, who owns their masters, and what makes it rain. Maro and Polo must join, or turn back home, but only to get in, you must solve a mystery. But since they are brothers and will help each other, they must preform three great mysteries to be accepted. Filled with adventure and humor, I had to give The Grand Escape Five Stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars An exciting adventure for cat and book lovers alike!, August 28, 1998
By A Customer
This is a very exciting book about Marco and Polo, two cats (one can read!) who escape their indoor life to go to a ranch. But it's a dog-eat-cat world out there, and they must do everything they can to survive. What adventures do they have? Will they make it to the ranch? Read it and find out! This is by far my favorite book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good book for tweens to read., July 1, 2011
Marco and Polo, two 4-year-old blue tabbies who are brothers, escape their home to explore the outside world and go on adventures. They end up meeting a cat called Texas Jake, who introduces the brothers to adventures called the Club of Mysteries.

It is a wonderful story and parts are scary, sad, and dangerous. Good book for tweens to read. Two thumbs up!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my Favorite books!, October 25, 2006
A Kid's Review
Phyllis Reyonds Naylor did an awesome job writing this book. The Grand Escape is a book about two cat brothers named Marco and Polo. Polo has always been a little more risky than is older brother Macro. Both have never been outside a day in their life. The brothers are determend to get out of that house for atleast a minute or two. But, the brothers go too far wonder off and get lost! After worring Marco and Polo relax, meet some friends and, rivals. You'll have to read the book to find out where Marco and Polo end up! Trust me, you'll absolutly love this book!
