Review

The lives of the characters in this story are intertwined in a way that is compelling to follow. It's obvious that something is going to happen, and it's exciting to follow along and watch it unfold.

This is not what I expected. This book is about a handful of characters (about 7 families) that are attending a fundraiser gala. Each family has issues or crisis that they are working out. And as we get to know the characters we see how they are connected. I gave this book 3 stars because I found the writing to be very good and the author does an excellent job of keeping everyone straight...

The writing would have benefited from more careful editing. I would recommend book this if you're looking for something to read while lying on the beach.

Grand Hotel has such a great mixture of romance, scandal and suspense. At the Annual Grand Isle Ball, a fundraiser is being held and some of the most prominent families are going to be there. While there's a lot going on in this book, and a lot of characters to keep up with, I think Jackson did a great job at keeping everything organized. The characters were all very distinct and definitely had their own voices. Overall, this was a very entertaining read and an interesting night at the ball!

This was a fun to read book full of glamorous intrigue and complex characters that are the center of tis book. It focuses on the Annual Grand Isle Ball in 1987 where something bad might happen and as I read I couldn’t wait to see how it all would unravel. The twists in the social landscape of this story were unforgettable and it has kept me in suspense the entire time. I liked the attention on detail and the ending. Overall, I would highly recommend this one.

Reading this story provided an interesting look into elite society and 7 families who are attending a fundraiser galla in 1987. The whirlwind of events and the interesting drama that went on between the various characters has kept me intrigued the whole time. I liked how multi-dimensional they were and the setting was realistic and interestingly portrayed. Truly surreal, the scandals in high places in this story have been very memorable. Well worth the read.

This is not what I expected. This book is about a handful of characters (about 7 families) that are attending a fundraiser gala. Each family has issues or crisis that they are working out. And as we get to know the characters we see how they are connected. I gave this book 3 stars because I found the writing to be very good and the author does an excellent job of keeping everyone straight; I never had an issue remembering who was who. And with this many people that is quite a feat. But the reason I only gave 3 stars is because I felt like the book never really went anywhere, there was no real climax. I feel like I read an episode in a daytime soap. I was especially unhappy about the ending and how a whole drama scene was rushed at the end and that was really the only thing that happened in the whole book. I didn't like the horrible twists that happened at the end and could not see the point. So, for me the book started out great and I was intrigued, but then fell apart at the end.
I received this book free for a review, but the review is truly how I feel about the book.

I think that the "suspense" genre is pretty broad and that is one of the reasons that I enjoy it so much. I was very intrigued by author J.A. Jackson's series and her "Grand Hotel" for several reasons. One is the setting as I love books that are set in the Bay Area and the other was the plot line as it reminded me of a complex and sexy game of "Clue". The read definitely didn't disappoint. There are a lot of characters in this one and I had no trouble keeping track of them or becoming invested in the story. I found the entire scene at the charity gala to be interesting and unique and the scandal amongst the players to be brilliantly played out.
