Ronald and Roberts, who own a home furnishings shop, cover more than paint techniques here. Covering everything from papier-mache to pinched tin designs to fabric painting, they have updated the materials used to include environmentally friendly latex paints. Sutcliffe (Decorating Magic, Pantheon, 1992) covers many of the same techniques described in Jocasta Innes's New Paint Magic (Pantheon, 1992), such as sponging and marbling, as well as the use of distemper and milk paints found in Judith and Martin Miller's Period Finishes and Effects (LJ 1/93). Again, instructions for the use of latex paints make the paint effects as described here easier to apply and clean up after. Since both books contain easy-to-follow instructions, they are recommended if more paint-effects books are needed.

On first flick I thought Yeah Great! the stuff in this book really nice and I'd love to have most of it somewhere in my house...where can I buy them!! On second read I soon started to relise that producing great finishes on furniture, lamp shades, curtains, floors and walls is not as hard as it looks and even someone like ME can achieve it. This book is fantastically laid out with big colourful, basic pictures which take you through the procedures step by step from start to finished product. It's an excellent book if you want some great, and visually stunning effects around the house without needing a degree in interior or graphic design. There are even templates in the back if you want to use the patterns straight from the book. There are also many different colour samples if you're not to sure of what colours go well together. It's also great for making gifts too! If you like to dabble in a little bit of art and craft then this book should definately make it to your bookshelf.

This book was horrible, it was like a primer for kindergarten kids. I couldn't believe it was even published. What a disappointment! It wasn't even worth the low price and postage I spent. Could have bought myself a burger and enjoyed the purchase.
