Book Description

Formerly titled Baby Grand: The Beginning

Serious-minded Kevin Johnson lives with his medical practitioner parents in a medical community. He has no interest in the field of medicine, though; he practices karate. But he isn’t very good at it and doesn’t actually like it. He does it because he sees himself as a wimpy little kid that needs to toughen up, and because his cousin and best friend Brian likes it. Brian likes it because he’s kick-butt good at it. Kevin’s real interests are auto racing, particularly the big-league NASCAR stuff, and girls, specifically the prettiest girl in school, Bonnie McGee. Unfortunately, he has no practical experience with either. He’s never been to a race track of any kind, and he’s never been on a date in his life, something he hopes to correct soon. But right now he’s pondering the state of his parents’ marriage, fearing that it’s in trouble, that he might somehow be partially responsible if his father isn't really his father. Kevin's parents stop his thought process when they drop the bomb: they're going on a humanitarian mission, and he’s going to rural Wisconsin to stay with grandparents he’d only met once, totally ruining his summer.

Kevin doesn't know it yet, but his life is about to change forever. And his days of being a wimpy little kid are gone.

Other Books in the Series: Baby Grand Conspiracy, Baby Grand Opportunity. All are full-length, stand-alone novels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Baby Grand I: The Beginning September 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed reading Baby Grand I: The Beginning because it had my interest from the "beginning". At first I thought it was about a piano but no about a car. It was about a family, two young people starting to learn about their families. You get to learn about the main character then part of his family he never knew about. Families are very similar and different at the same time. The main character is more mature, for his 14 years, how he thinks and grows. This is not about just him but his young second cousin, how they learn about family history and interests. A very very interesting book and you become interested in how they grow into family business. Not just a teen age romance novel! A very good book that I only read at bed time and finished in no time. A very good author, you can tell he knew a lot about racing, kept you interested!

The development of the two main characters Kevin and Desiree, as well as the surrounding characters drew me to an emotional involvement. The anticipation of the future growth of the characters made my reading time longer and faster time to read after resting. The author did a remarkable job of meshing all the characters into believable co-existence. Fast reading, but made you read each line. Captured the emotions of youth into a believability to the reader and could not wait to read his next book.

I choose this rating because this book held my interest and showed the hero side of a young person who is usually looked upon as trouble, I also loved the family togetherness
