5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, The Solo we have been waiting for.....
anyone that knows who Planet Asia is, knows that he is one of the top 5 underground emcees around and personally I think he is THE number 1 underground rapper today. This album is almost flawless, from beginning to end it is both pleasing to Asia's hardcore fans and accessible for new listeners. The only flaw on this album is It's all Big. 3.0 out of 5 stars Planet Asia- Grand Opening
Planet Asia's "The Grand Opening" (2004) is a decent album which will most likely fall under most peoples music radar. The album opens with the blazing "16 Bars of Death" a track which a hungry Asia rips up. This is followed up by the exceptional "Right Or Wrong", really like the beat, chorus and lyrics to this cut. Ghostface Killah drops in for "Real Niggaz" a grimey...

This album is almost flawless, from beginning to end it is both pleasing to Asia's hardcore fans and accessible for new listeners. The only flaw on this album is It's all Big. It is a desperate attempt to reach the masses in form of a club track. I cant blame him though, he deserves to be wealthy from what he does more than 99% of the garbage that most of these radio dj's call hip hop. I think I speak for Hip Hop when I say Thank You Planet Asia. Your new album is the Sh**.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid CD, August 26, 2004
This review is from: The Grand Opening (Audio CD)
Planet Asia is a very talented MC hailing from the Freson area of California although is flow is more east coast, almost Wu-Tang on certain cuts (Track #6)All in all, it is a very solid CD. A good 6 or 7 songs you will really enjoy. His underground roots show through as amateurish on some tracks such as Paper Up which just doesn't come off as polished at all. The top songs are all bangers though:
Right or Wrong: Excellent beat and smooth flow by PA
Real Niggaz: Asia holds his own with Ghostface, great song
Pure Coke: Wutang type flow over a Cali-type beat, blends well
Upside Down: Showcases his storytelling ability, solidifies his talent as a well rounded MC,not something every underground MC can pull off
Summertime in the City: Seems like Asia almost had a hard time finding his flow but I just love it as a kick back joint.

I lost this CD twice and bought it back both times, so it is good enough to get, trust me you will find songs you will love.

4.0 out of 5 stars THE KID IS NICE!!!, August 20, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Grand Opening (Audio CD)
CALI HAS SOME HOT MC'S, BUT THIS KID IS ONE OF THE BETTR ONES I'VE HEARD. SOUNDS LIKE A COMBO OF BLACK THOUGHT AND OC. THE ALBUM HAS A STRONG EAST COAST INFLUENCE AND THE ONLY THING THAT KEEPS THIS ALBUM FROM BEING 5STARS IS MORE BIG NAME PROCUCERS. STILL A MUST BUY FOR ANY TRUE HIP-HOP FAN.

4.0 out of 5 stars Planet Asia= DOPE MC, September 30, 2005

This is Planet Asia's second album and if it werent for a couple poor atemtps at comercialism early on in the album this would be a bonafide classic I loved 95% of the tracks on this disc and found asia to be a pretty formidable lyricist I enjoyed his laid back street knowledge type flows that work really well with this type of west coast style on this CD. If you are a fan of Wild Child or The Alkaholiks you gotta check this guy out. while not a classic this is one of the west coast undergrounds finest.

3.0 out of 5 stars Planet Asia- Grand Opening, March 16, 2004
This review is from: The Grand Opening (Audio CD)
Planet Asia's "The Grand Opening" (2004) is a decent album which will most likely fall under most peoples music radar. The album opens with the blazing "16 Bars of Death" a track which a hungry Asia rips up. This is followed up by the exceptional "Right Or Wrong", really like the beat, chorus and lyrics to this cut. Ghostface Killah drops in for "Real Niggaz" a grimey collabration track. I have to agree with the previous reviewer in that "It's All Big" is a horrible attempt at a commercial single. Another decent track is "Hypnotize" a cut about the ladies which features the smooth vocals of Cecile Davis. "Paper Up" is about focusing and getting paid. After that things kind of go downhill in my opinion its not like these tracks are bad, they just do not grab my attention. The albums closer is the sad "As Long As I'm Alive" another standout track where Planet Asia pays tribute to those who have passed. The standout tracks on this make "The Grand Opening" an album worth checking out. 3.5.

3.0 out of 5 stars Planet Asia is Tight!., March 22, 2004
This review is from: The Grand Opening (Audio CD)
Planet Asia is tight, but a couple of the songs are too simple. His voice, flow, and tone are great, but the music production needs to be of equal quality consistently. I'll probably buy his next one as well.
