Marvelous playing, a must have for serious collectors,

This review is from: Grand Piano: Ignaz Jan Paderewski (Audio CD)
Hello there,Paderewski is one of my all-time favorite pianist of the 19/20th century. Never mechanical and always insightful, Paderewski embodies art in its purest form. I love how Paderewski makes each of these pieces his own. In this particular compilation, I love his renditions of the Hungarian Rhapsodies, the Spinning Song, and the Moonlight Sonata. As an amateur concert pianist, I always look forward with great interest to Paderewski's interpretations because he always provides a unique perspective on each composition, akin to a signature. Thus, I try to incorporate some of his great ideas into my own style as I do of every great concert pianist that I admire (the list is long). I am definitely buying volume #2! If only there was a way for me to get my hands on piano-rolls of Franz Liszt... I've always heard he was the best pianist of the 19th century, but I have never heard him play. Although, this could be a blessing in disguise; otherwise, I would lose my "piano voice" and I would try to only imitate him. 'til next time, Charles Henri Darakdjian

the pianist on this CD, paderewski, is not to everyone's tastes. his always passionate and occasionally eccentric approach to a piece can be disconcerting. but the incredibly lush, powerfully rhythmical rendition of the 1st cut on the CD -one of the hungarian rhapsodies -is worth the purchase of the disk.
