Astounding music,

This review is from: Grand Piano: Liszt & Chopin (Audio CD)
The music recorded on these piano rolls is truly astounding. Friedman shows phenomenal technique, as well as beauty in playing these pieces. And of course the sound is great since it was recorded using modern technology of off piano rolls. Is it true to Friedman? To hear the live stuff, there are great recordings on Naxos. The playing from these rolls is very dynamic and lively, not like the muted Muzak present on the "Window in Time" series for Rachmaninov. I have other Nimbus piano roll CDs, and they seem to have done a very good job in reproducing this music.

I was looking for Wagner-Liszt Tannhäuser Overture versions and found this wonderful CD. After listening and seeing Benno Moiseiwitsch playing this extraordinary and terribly difficult transcription in a DVD I would like to try some others pianists. And what pianist! Ok: sometimes he has freedom in excess but this makes the difference. And it's incredible what the engineer sound was able to do (the records are from the begining of the century !) I don't know if what I listened was true but definitely is beautiful!
