Originally developed for Windows 98. Takes modifications, (patches) to run on XP or newer OS and hardware. Go to the forum at srmz.net for instructions and support from a group of dedicated enthusiasts.

Almost twenty years and still the best! I last played this simulator about three years ago at a friend's house who had a cockpit and steering wheel set up in his gaming room. What a blast! My favorite track in this was Spa, the original one as seen in the movie 'Grand Prix'. . . Since that time there have been some great racing games but nothing like this. Papyrus knew they had made something that was going to be a classic as soon as it went out the door but to have something continue with such a strong following is exceptional.
I know Project Cars is working on an up to date version of this game, they will have a very tough act to follow. Here's wishing them the best at bringing Grand Prix Legends up to date for the 21st century with the same 1960's Formula One experience.

This game makes you feel like you are at the wheel of 1967 F1 cars! So cool. I downloaded and installed all the patches and they really take the game appearance and feel (adds force feedback) to the next level. This is not an arcade game, you cannot unrealistically run over/into everything. These cars take skill to drive. You will crash. When you hit something it breaks the car. Much more effort is required, just like the real F1 cars. Highly recommend to those that want to put the effort into driving. There is a bunch of downloadable updates and modifications that can keep this game fresh for quite a while.

Sometimes a classic is born and never goes away. GPL is one of those that has a great online community that continually provides updates and support. I loved it back in 1998 and it's still awesome today.

Simply put, a masterpiece. The passion of racing digitized. The epitome of addictive racing action. It never gets old, because racing never gets old.

If you don't know who Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark or Jack Brabham are, you probably won't enjoy this game as much . . . or I should say "simulator".

Based on the 1967 Formula One season, this sim is very challenging: You will spin off the track during your first lap. You suddenly realize these cars follow "trajectory" and you learn to steer with throttle (no small task).

This sim also has a devoted following of sim racers. The Grand Prix Legends community is very strong and helpful.

All in all, if you are interested in how these '67 beasts handled and are curious about the dangers of Formula One back in it's golden years, you will enjoy discovering the greatness that is GPL (Grand Prix Legends).

For a sneak peak at graphic updates from 1998 to 2003:

nobody one-stars GPL! This is without question one of the finest racing sims of all time. and still has a very active community 12 years after being released. Now this is a game released when windows 98 was king, and it does require some patching to get working on modern systems. I have run mine for many years on Win XP and am currently running it well on Windows 7 64 bit. but I would imagine that right out of the box, it may not run properly. A little time with google should find you the all-in-one patch for GPL or even better, the GPL preservation society's new installer, that installs most of the popular graphics upgrades to this gem of a sim. still gets a lot of time from me even after 12 years!

This game was produced in 1998 and still has no rivals. It has an international cult following that is producing updates, mods, new graphics, different car sets and tracks that can be downloaded from various sites for free. There is tons of info. out there for setups, driving techniques, etc. On line races are still being scheduled. It is however the MOST difficult driving game out there because of the realistic performance physics models build into it of late sixties F1 cars. It takes a good deal of time to become anywhere near proficient, which is probably why it is so loved, and no longer made.
