Louis Armstrong was born in New Orleans in 1901. By the mid-20s he had moved to Chicago and was recording seminal jazz standards such as "Weatherbird", "Muggles" and "West… Read more in Amazon's Louis Armstrong Store

3.0 out of 5 stars Jazz is Back in Grand Rapids, March 20, 2009

This review is from: Jazz Is Back in Grand Rapids (Audio CD)
Armstrong with his best All Star Band - these live-recordings are good but not his best with the mid 1950's All Stars, with Velma Middleton doing quite a few songs, something that I am not too fond of unless one can see her perform, she's rather uneventful. The sound is good. Unless you're a true fan of this Band and simply want to have all the songs with the different solos each musician plays on re-occurring songs during the course of live recordings throughout the years I suggest getting "Ambassador Satch" and "Satchmo the Great" and instead of this one I suggest Louis Armstrong "The Great Chicago Concert (1956)", which has many of the songs featured on this one and more, including more famous tunes Like Basin Street Blues, Tiger Rag etc. If there was an option I'd give it 3.5 stars.
