5.0 out of 5 stars BEST CD of 1999!, August 8, 2000

Glad to see that Amazon is now carrying the latest release from this Aussie supergroup. Spiderbait take an AMAZING leap forward with this offering - they have melded the best elements of their songwriting ability, and ambitiously added some jam and folk music amdist the most solidly crafted power pop I have ever heard. Practically all of the songs hook you right away - a very 'up' CD, and everyone that has heard it (thanks to me) thinks it is awesome too. This will please fans of post-punk as well as today's alternative crowd, and I think if this CD gets promoted it would explode here in the US.

Simply put, this is one export worth a try - one of the highest rated bands right now in Australia (take it from someone who lived there awhile), however not too 'commercial' like some Aussie exports over the past 10 years (eg Savage Garden, Silverchair). Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best aussie stuff youll hear!, December 14, 2002

I am a huge spiderbait fan, i lived in AUs till i was 16 then we moved to the US and I still love spiderbait, sure no one i know has heard of them but oh man you just have to trust me and check this out its like no other and buy Ivy and the big apples and also please check out The flight of Wally Funk!!
This cd though, Grand Slam takes on a slightly more pop sound and is also just awesome.. Stevie, Glokenpop and Dinnertime are some ones you may hear in aus on the radios and they are excellent.. i cant say anything bad about them!! Also if you like spiderbait check out janets side project Happyland!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tip Top, August 27, 2001

Spiderbait are one of the very few up-beat, guitar-based bands that I never seem to tire of. Grand Slam is their best effort to date and actually contains a fair portion of variety and experimentation, especially for a three-piece. Whether it be listen number 1, or listen number 51, this is a record that will never fail to lift your mood.

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute blinder from down under, December 5, 2000

Why this band (and this CD in particular) has not broken in North America has me stumped.

By far their strongest CD following the more than worth while "Ivy and teh Big Apples".

Like Micheal beelow, everyone I have played it to outside of Oz has been blown away, resulting in more than one phone call down under to beg freinds/family/acquantences to post them a copy. Thanks to Amazon, no longer required.

Yes the song will hook you right away but also standup well to high rotation on the CD player.

To finish I will quote a professional review of this CD I read in Oz (author long since forgotten), and that is "an embarisment of riches".

4.0 out of 5 stars Happy pop with a side of sadness, May 2, 2005
By
This review is from: Grand Slam (Audio CD)
This is a fantastic CD, it is an up beat happy CD with some sad sounding songs and some heavy hitting guitars. My personal favorite is Bessy's Last Journey. This song sounds beautiful and is enjoyable to listen to as is the rest of the CD. I als enjoy how the two each sing in different songs. One song may be happy song with the girl telling you how easy it is to sing and the other might be a harder sounding song with somewhat angry sounding lyrics fromt he guy.
I got this CD from a friend in Australia and I have loved it. I recommend you give it a shot but give all of the songs a shot because some might not suit your taste because of the happy sound where others might.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Feel Good Vibe CD, April 30, 2001

Spiderbaits: "Grandslam" is AWESÜM. It is one of those CD's that will always put you in a good mood.

When I first bought it, I listened to it over & over & over again & still do. It is hard to pick a favourite track from this cd at first though I personally pick the song "Buster." This song is the most brilliant instrumental I've ever heard.

The only song that I skip is "King of the Northern." I'm sure some will like it & some won't but to me it feels a little out of place.

None the less, this CD is the funkiest thing in it's own style out there today & your ears deserve to hear this & the happiest of lyrics that this CD has to offer!!!
