From the first moments of the installation, Grand Theft Auto 2, offers the same smarmy, self-important hipster "atti-tude" that overtakes people who get tattoos and then think they're rebellious; in spite of this, it's one of the most entertaining games around. Parents beware: this isn't a driving game, but rather a title that prides itself on valuing random violence. (At certain points in the game, for example, your character is rewarded with a "kill frenzy," where he or she gets to kill as many people as possible in the shortest amount of time). But we think it's a hilarious and engaging interpretation of modern urban life and wouldn't trade GTA--to update a cliché--for all the crack in Philly.
Here's the 411: you're trying to impress low-life, underworld crime bosses, and you have to do their dirty work in any way you can. This includes killing people, stealing cars, throwing bombs, inciting mayhem, and belching at passers-by. But the best part of this game comes once you start a carjacking. More patient players pick the parked cars and evade the cops for longer; those of us with limited attention spans just like using a truck to bang into other drivers in the way, ramming them until the road is clear. The new edition boasts better graphics for these escapades, but there is still something to be said for the pixellated pleasure of the first GTA, in the same way that some of us hold a fondness in our heart for our TRS-80 Tandys.
Once you adjust to the birds-eye view, it's easy to become obsessed with completing your missions. The improved AI is as clever as the rest of the game; in version two, for example, the bus we were driving caught on fire after we hit too many cars. Imaginative and capable of making you laugh out loud even as you ready your rocket-launcher, Grand Theft Auto 2 is a great ride. --Jennifer Buckendorff

GTA2's fun and easy to play- but it's not for little kids,

This review is from: Grand Theft Auto 2 (CD-ROM)
GTA2 is a highly addictive and fun to play shoot 'em up action type game. You play a bad guy.. you get to steal cars, buses, blow up stuff. Easy to learn.. plus, there's on screen help. The graphics are real nice (much better than the Playstation version). But, don't get it if you don't like violence and profanity. If you're still not sure about purchasing, try to find the DEMO on the web.. you get 6minutes of play before the game ends.

Good improvement, but not much!,

This seems more like Grand Theft Auto 2.0. Much of the gameplay is the same and the missions not much different. The graphics have improved and the sound is better but if you have the original then there isn't much point in buying this. As a stand-alone game it rocks. The radio channels are hilarious as ever and morbid sense of humor will no doubt appeal to most people. This game does not invoke violence in anyone at all so don't worry. When it was first released the slogan was "Study this game." With the word "study" blacked out. I guess this is because there was uproar over the first game. Man, if they thought that this was violent, they would certainly freak big-time over GTA3.

Jack em' up!,

My sister bought Grand Theft Auto 2 (GTA2) a long time ago and I still play it. GTA2 is a game where you can do almost anything. You can jack cars from anyone including the police. The main point of this game is that you have to work for 7 ruthless gangs without getting your hide thrown in jail. The jobs start off easily but then increase each time you work for a gang. The harder the job is the more money you get. But, in order to work for a gang you have to show some respect. There are seven different gangs in the city and each of them hate each other. When you work for one gang then another gang looses respect for you then you gotta kill gang members from the gang that likes you then the gang that hates you will respect you so you can get another job from the gang that likes you. Well, it's kinda tricky at first but once you get the hang of getting respect from another gang it's pretty fun. There are over 100's of jobs and over 100's of cars. You can choose from armored lemos to tanks or even ice cream trucks! Also, this game is free. You can do anything to achieve your goals. You can put a bomb in a car and drive it to a gang's safehouse and blow them sky high! Almost anything you can do. That's why I love this game! If you love being the bad guy sometimes and love a game where you can do anything from getting chased by cops to working for dangerous gangs then get this game!
