Don't let the "Not compatible with Windows 7" warning scare off Windows 7 users. I downloaded the file, ran the downloader/installer in compatibility mode for XP, installed it without problems, and it runs great (I also run the exe in compatibility mode, just to be safe) : I experienced no problems at all!

It's a very fun game, absolutely worth the price.

The only downside is the requirement to set up a Windows Live account, but once that is set and done, it shouldn't bother you again!

Despite the bad reviews here, I decided to give the game a try on my Windows 8 laptop when the DL went on sale. The download for the base game (~14GB) took about a day of uninterrupted downloading over a DSL line. Not bad. The install on my SSD drive was amazingly fast for the size, thanks to the drive. I imagine a 14GB game will take much longer installing on a HDD. I patched the game to 1.0.7.0, which removed the req for Social Club for offline play, and activated the key. Then I tried loading the game.

After clicking through the Social Club pop-up, nothing happened. I thought I was doomed to be one of the hordes of people complaining about the game not working. Then I went online to do a little research and found out what was wrong.

The Games for Windows LIVE Web Client needed to be installed. Unfortunately, the game doesn't tell you this, it just doesn't bother loading, leaving you to figure out this not-so-obvious omission. For whatever reason, a req'd program doesn't even get INSTALLED by the installer. A pretty terrible oversight. Anyway, after installing GFWL, the game works now. Hooray.

The game runs well enough on my laptop. With the resolution at 1366x768, graphics set to High and Draw Distance/Vehicle Density/etc. set to 100, the game runs with some lagging, but not bad enough to detract from game play. If I sacrificed graphic quality, the frame rates will likely improve to no lagging. Granted, my laptop's about 3 months old so older units will run into performance issues, but my laptop's also only a mid-level (2.5GHz Intel Core i5, 6GB RAM, NVidia GeForce 630M).

I've noticed some glitching so far, but nothing that has ruined gameplay. The graphics are alright.

Every attempt to install this game under Windows 7 resulted in an immediate Blue Screen of Death as soon as the installation was complete. It`s not even possible to cancel the installation, as soon as you insert the second disc (i bought the retail edition) it continues until the BSOD, no chance to stop it even with the task manager.

I tried running it in compatibility mode for both Win 2000 and Win XP, still no effect. I installed the Rockstar Social Club App separately, no effect. Then i obtained another version of the game from...lets say...less legal sources and tried to install this copy, Result: another BSOD.
So, i have no idea how good this game actually is but based on the impossibility of a clean install i can only rate it with a single star. There you go Rockstar, thank you very much...

I would really like to sell this game to someone with a XP machine but sadly after the seventh installation attempt i slammed the box so hard on the floor that it broke in-two, there goes the last chance to get back my 15$...my bad....

Yes..I bought this...and IT DOES work for Windows 7..YES I had to jump through a few hoops to make it work..(Running it in compatibility for Windows XP service pack 3) but that's the least I had to do <<<<THIS required an extra 5 minutes of my time, to get working properly....for BOTH games. What's 5 minutes compared to many hours of enjoyment?..NOTHING. YES, you have to install Rockstar Gaming Social Club (You will find this folder in the download, as it is required for activation)<<< I had already done this for Max Payne 3, so it went rather quick for me..and YES, BOTH games wants to run through GFWL<<<YOU, don't need to play 'online'...so just skip it. GFWL is 'dead' anyway. If you know your way around your PC...you'll have these games up and running , in NO time at all.

Haven't installed Episodes from Liberty City yet, but have installed core GTA 4.

After quite a lengthy download, I installed it, along with Rockstar Games Social club. Ran it, patched it, which automatically uninstalled the stand alone social club as it was no longer required by the updated game.

I've only played maybe 15 minutes. Just wanted to report that it works fine on win 7 64bit. Haven't run into any problems yet. Crossing my fingers.

This version is not redeemable on Steam. This version is through amazon game download and has tons of errors and bugs. I recommend that you download GTA IV: Complete [Online Game Code]. Make sure it says Online Game Code then they will give you a code to redeem on steam. They are the same price and all.

1 of 5 stars is given for this Amazon Download, and not the actual game.

This particular product does not work as of August 2013 when Microsoft ended the PC Marketplace which creates problems--needless to say. I have given up attempting to fix the numerous issues. I am instead purchasing the game from Steam: appears to be only reliable version of the game.

For reference, I include below the problems that I encountered with this version and the subsequent solutions that worked for me.
As a note, I spent an estimated four hours researching and fiddling.

My system specs: Windows 8.1 x64

Problems have I solved:
1. System compatibility - Problem with the compatibility. Easy to fix.
Solution: Download Silverlight. Use Silverlight to run GTAIV exe. in compatible mode. [...]
2. Black screen - Problem with Main Menu not fully loading. Easy to fix.
Solution: Download Microsoft .NET 3.5. [...]

Problems that I did not solve:
1. Invalid Product Key Code - Problem with key code being "invalid." Not easy to solve.
Solution: It seems that this problem is rooted in Games for Microsoft LIVE (GfML). GfML recognizes the product key code to be for Xbox, and thus the game generates an error for the pc. Contacting customer service appears to be the solution, or purchasing the game from Steam instead.

Amazon, please stop selling this edition.
