Don't let the "Not compatible with Windows 7" warning scare off Windows 7 users. I downloaded the file, ran the downloader/installer in compatibility mode for XP, installed it without problems, and it runs great (I also run the exe in compatibility mode, just to be safe) : I experienced no problems at all!

It's a very fun game, absolutely worth the price.

The only downside is the requirement to set up a Windows Live account, but once that is set and done, it shouldn't bother you again!

not sure why all these fools are having problems with the game yeah u have to make a social live account and have a games for windows live account but its 2012 all pc games require some sort of online accounts to play its just the way it is now. as for the gameplay man this game is so much fun i really like all the side stories and it runs decent on my old Q9550 cpu with a Gtx560 Gpu and 4gb of DDR2 havnt had any problems running it on windows 7 64bit either all in all its a Solid game .

I enjoy the low price of 7.50 when I bought it. Even though it gets low reviews due to installation trouble by other people, I've bought it telling myself I could make it work.

I'm on Win 7 Pro x64.

It downloads really fast from Amazon. After I've installed GTA4, I get a securom error. After uninstalling the 2005 visual C++ redist and reinstalling with the one that came with the installation. I have to set all the .exe in the file to run in compatibility mode based on xp sp3. The game ran, but it was very sluggish. Ran the update through Windows Live for Games. And the game is now snappy. It didn't even need rockstar club to run it.

Overall, The game runs, but it needs fair bit of tweaking to get it to work.

Despite the bad reviews here, I decided to give the game a try on my Windows 8 laptop when the DL went on sale. The download for the base game (~14GB) took about a day of uninterrupted downloading over a DSL line. Not bad. The install on my SSD drive was amazingly fast for the size, thanks to the drive. I imagine a 14GB game will take much longer installing on a HDD. I patched the game to 1.0.7.0, which removed the req for Social Club for offline play, and activated the key. Then I tried loading the game.

After clicking through the Social Club pop-up, nothing happened. I thought I was doomed to be one of the hordes of people complaining about the game not working. Then I went online to do a little research and found out what was wrong.

The Games for Windows LIVE Web Client needed to be installed. Unfortunately, the game doesn't tell you this, it just doesn't bother loading, leaving you to figure out this not-so-obvious omission. For whatever reason, a req'd program doesn't even get INSTALLED by the installer. A pretty terrible oversight. Anyway, after installing GFWL, the game works now. Hooray.

The game runs well enough on my laptop. With the resolution at 1366x768, graphics set to High and Draw Distance/Vehicle Density/etc. set to 100, the game runs with some lagging, but not bad enough to detract from game play. If I sacrificed graphic quality, the frame rates will likely improve to no lagging. Granted, my laptop's about 3 months old so older units will run into performance issues, but my laptop's also only a mid-level (2.5GHz Intel Core i5, 6GB RAM, NVidia GeForce 630M).

I've noticed some glitching so far, but nothing that has ruined gameplay. The graphics are alright.... I think the game looks better on a console, less polished and more glitching on the PC port. The game does require a LIVE account to save games and a RS Social Club account to play online, but if you only want to mess around the map and not save anything, then neither is required to play.

Search online for the 'Games for Windows LIVE Client', download and install it, and patch up to 1.0.7.0. I can't speak for all those having problems, but I do know the game (eventually) worked for me. I'd give it 4 stars, -1 for the initial issues and graphical glitching, +4 for the sheer relief that the game actually RUNS after reading all these reviews!

UPDATE: Installed EFLC and it works fine after patching. Also, changing the OS compatibility mode turned out to be unnecessary, the games worked without it on. The performance also improved considerably when I turned OFF V-Sync. I don't know, maybe the game is more compatible for Windows 8 than it is 7 or even the OSes it was designed for, but aside from the occasional in-game graphic glitching, mild lagginess when I max out the graphics, and poor touchpad responsiveness, the games work decently. Heed the steep system requirements, and if you're using an onboard integrated graphics chip with no dedicated VRAM, don't bother. I think that's where most problems here stem from. Read more ›

This complete edition includes the original gta IV and its two additions.

The core game is very long and has really interesting characters and developments in the story.
The two additions let you play two other characters (one each), whose story occurs in parallel to the core game's story.

The two additions offer missions that I would say are more fun, especially the Lost and Damned episode. It's missions are fast and brutal.

For 30 bucks you get a ton of fun (and NOT tedious) content, great core gameplay, a very good main story that would make you care, and I never cared in a game anymore than I did while playing gta IV.

If you ever loved gta, buy this.
If you ever cared much about gta, know that this story is completely new so it doesn't matter that you didn't play the previous games in the franchise.
