Great Music From Eastern Europe,
This review is from: Grand Theft Auto IV: Vladivostok FM (MP3 Download)
All of the tracks on the CD are in fact in Russian and are provide a great sample of Eastern European music. Nikoli Bellic aka Niko is in fact a Serbian immigrant into the US. As a southern-Slavic speaking nation Serbian is both written using the Cyrillic alphabet and remains similar enough to the northern Slavic dialects of Ukraine and Russia. The music is all from Russian charts and such artists as Basta and Seryoga are examples of the new wave of Russian rap. This brings a larger appeal to the western market as older groups such as Kasta flow in a different way and are under produced. Vladivostok FM also bring sin greats like Kino and Splin which more exemplify Russian alternative rock and the song Gruppa Krovi (blood type) by Kino is almost the anthem of rebellious youth in the Soviet Union during the 80's. Overall this album not only does a great job of exposing the western market to Eastern European (although mainly Russian) music market but also brings a feel for the less seen Eastern European immigrant culture that is so large in cities like New York and Denver. Too bad they didn't play more songs from Basta like Ty Ta, and more songs from Kino, Splin and maybe a few Sector Gaza songs.

This soundtrack is a definite buy. I love the game, and the Soundtrack is amazing. Vladivostok FM is my FAVORITE station in the whole game. Great Tracks are King Ring, Wild Dances, and Schwine. I love this soundtrack, and I love this game.

I'm a GTA and music outsider, but this was worth it,

Whether you're into GTA4 or not, this stands on its own as a compilation of Russian talent. The tracks are diverse, from electronica to traditional-folky to R&B to kinda '80s proto-Goth--but they all share that sense of edginess and urgency that GTA cultivates so well. I'm not a big buyer of music, but this was completely worth it. Do yourself a favor and be exposed.
You'll also probably start learning the Russian lyrics, so you can claim it as an educational credit on your taxes.
