4.0 out of 5 stars Could have had more but still a good value
Every thing on this set is great except for the missing tracks. I'll explain everything that is omitted, for your information. The following songs are not included (at least on the version I bought):

from Wildstyle, "Get It Girl" by 2 Live Crew, "The Smurf" by Tyrone Brunson. From Flash, "Japanese Boy" by Aneka, "Video Killed The Radio Star" by The Buggles, "One Thing...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great soundtrack, but more included with the game
So why, if you own the PC game, would you shell out money for this? I guess if you had a fetish for packaging, this would suit you...

Seriously, if you own the PC game, you can not only listen to the radio in-game, but you can extract the radio stations to MP3 (including the chat stations, which are not included here) and then burn them as CD-Audio if you...

from Wildstyle, "Get It Girl" by 2 Live Crew, "The Smurf" by Tyrone Brunson. From Flash, "Japanese Boy" by Aneka, "Video Killed The Radio Star" by The Buggles, "One Thing Leads To Another" by The Fixx. From Fever 105, "Last Night A D.J. Saved My Life" by In Deep. From VRock, "Cum On Feel The Noise" by Quiet Riot, "She Sells Sanctuary" by The Cult, "Working For The Weekend" by Loverboy, "God Bless Video" by Alcatrazz, "Fist Fury" by Lovefist. From Espantoso, "The Bullís Wrong" by Alpha Banditos, "Yo Te Mire" by Tres Apenas Como Eso. From Wave 103, "Love Missle F1-11" by Sigue Sigue Sputnik, "Cars" by Gary Numan, "Poison Arrow" by ABC, "Obsession" by Animotion. Some sections of songs have also been removed, like the ones in "Self Control" by Laura Branigan and "I Ran" by Flock of Seagulls. The stations K-Chat and Vice City: Pressing Issues have also been excluded, but I personally don't feel they are necessary for the soundtrack.

Otherwise this disc set is excellent, with the commercials, and the announcers in character, acting as if they are albums of greatest hits from their stations.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing value, June 10, 2003
This review is from: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - Box Set (Audio CD)
Anyone disillusioned with the greed and exploitation of the music industry can take some solice in this fantastic box set. Seven great CDs for an even better price. Believe me, this is the definition of worth the money. With beautiful packaging and neat little extras to boot!

Yes, some will complain about the tracks left off the soundtrack. Some omissions are so glaring, that one has to assume many were contractually motivated. No matter, though, as the soundtracks are still absurdly comprehensive and offer a great sampler of 80's music with a healthy mix of big hits and underappreciated tracks. "Four Little Diamonds" has quickly become a personal favorite, as has the awesome Romeo Void track "Never Say Never". The broad variety of the seven discs make this a great addition to any CD collection, even if you haven't played the game. From post-disco dance tracks, to the cool of Latin Jazz, to the calculated excess of pop and hard rock, to the morose stylings of New Wave and the urban poetry of early rap, this soundtrack set embodies the surprisingly rich musical diversity of the much malligned 80's. I can't think of anyone putting out such an eclectic and complete set as this. This hits all its spots, and I highly recommend it.

Oh, and no. Aneka's "Japanese Boy" is most definetly not included in this collection. Trust me. I *actually* own the box set.

4.0 out of 5 stars ALL 80's! BUT NOT ALL SONGS..., December 26, 2002
By
This review is from: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - Box Set (Audio CD)
After purchasing this MAIBATSU MONSTROSITY of a Box Set, it was clear to see this was an outstanding soundtrack! The music does it's magic of making you feel like your back in the 80's!
The Box set contains seven outstanding CD's, from seven radio stations in the game. And although the following soundtrack was done well, there was a PROBLEM! After comparing the game manual's listing of music to the soundtracks list, some of the music was MISSING! Songs like Japanese Boy from Flash FM, and others were no where to be found in the box set. And after looking to see if there was enough space on each CD, there was at least a half an hour left on what looked to be an 80 minute disc! And to make things worse, some of the radio stations were MISSING AS WELL...
Although they didn't contain music, the missing radio stations were the ones like kchat, and the other talk shows. From what I heard, the talk shows seemed hilarious on the PS2, and would've been a good addition to the collection! Overall, this soundtrack has been done well, but don't expetc ALL the songs from the game to be there!

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest Soundtrack Around?, December 8, 2002
By

First off, this "soundtrack" contains 7 - count 'em - SEVEN cd's packed with great hits from the 80's. Not only that, but each cd has a different tone. SO whether you want punk rock, hip hop, or even latino, there's a cd for you.

What is also cool is that each cd has actual chat and commercials from the hit video game for PS2. And each cd, when used with a PC gives a access to a cheat code from the website.

What more could you ask for? A full color map? A map of the cities? Maybe a memory card with the game completed for you? That's asking for a bit much, but it's still a great soundtrack anyways. It even comes with a nice box for all the cd's.

5.0 out of 5 stars The 80's will NEVER die!, November 14, 2002

First off, it's a great game. Then, a great expansion (Vice City). And to top it all off Rockstar Games and Epic Records, in association with SONY, have released a 7-CD SET! I grew up, and was a child of the 80's, and this is it. This covers all the greats from Frankie Goes to Hollywood to Michael Jackson. And to top it all off, there's some great tracks from the game itself. I don't care if you've never even heard of the video game, if you love the 80's, you have to buy this set!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable, December 2, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - Box Set (Audio CD)
This is it. The perfect complement to what will likely be the best selling PS2 game of all time (or at least until the next GTA game comes out). A full seven discs, with every song worth listening to from the 80s. And the best part is, Michael Jackson is in the set! Now, if you've noticed, this is the very first collection of 80s music with Michael Jackson in it. I don't know why. But, still, it probably wasn't much of a big deal, because Epic produced this box set, and Epic is Michael's record label.

Flashback FM was the station I listened to most in GTA 3, and the music WAS licensed. All the songs on that station were from the Scarface soundtrack. Flashback FM was like, the daddy of this box set. And now, every radio station in Vice City is Flashback FM! Cool! On a further note, Double Cleff FM was another favorite of mine, but let's not get into that...

I think it's clear. If you have any intrest at all in 80s music, whether you like the game or not, this is the best collection money can buy. And every CD is available individually, so if you don't like them all, buy the one or two you want, but why? Just buy the whole thing!

Vice city and its soundtrack ROCK. Don't wait another second.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not complete...but still great!, May 22, 2007
This review is from: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - Box Set (Audio CD)
First of all, this is a great soundtrack to purchase for anyone who enjoys just driving around Vice City and listening to the radio. This is the reason why I bought it. However, there were a few disappointments. When I purchased the Grand Theft Auto Vice City Soundtrack Box Set, I expected every song from every music station to be included. Although most of the songs are included, a few were not. I feel that this is made up for, though, by the inclusion of DJ banter and various commercials from the game.

One thing that I feel would have improved this soundtrack set would be to include the K-Chat and VCPR stations. These were both favorites of mine (along with Wave 103).

Overall, I have to say that the GTA Vice City Soundtrack Box Set is a great buy if you enjoy the multiple radio stations, or if you simply want to add to your Grand Theft Auto collection! I was certainly satisfied.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some tracks missing, but still a good value., January 23, 2006
This review is from: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - Box Set (Audio CD)
I was happy with the purchase of this box set, however, there are some songs missing from this collection... ones I heard in the game, but are missing from this set. Even still, it is quite good and it is nice to have many of my favorite 80's tunes all on one CD. I really only listen to 4 out of the 7 CD'S in the box set, but it was still worth the money for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars As Entertaining As The Game Itself!, September 15, 2005
This review is from: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - Box Set (Audio CD)
At first when I was going to put the money into purchasing this box set, I was hesitant. It cost me $45.00 brand new for an in store purchase. I could have got it on an online auction but experience showed that I would end up paying around the same price anyway so why not just buy it in the store. I'm so glad I made the decision to spend the money on this purchase. Once you here the songs, entertaining DJ skits, and quality of sound found on these albums, you won't have any regrets from buying it. There are so many perks to owning this collection. One is that I found the songs to be "remastered" for this compilation. I own a lot of 80's collections and you get what you pay for. Most aren't remastered. They're just thrown together to make some money. But the GTA box set is quality from begining to end.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best collection of 80's music you can buy!, November 25, 2002

If you're looking for a group of CD's that sums up 80's music then this collection is for you. Theres new wave, pop, rap, hard rock, soft rock, r&b, and some great latin music thrown in.
My favorite is definitely the new wave CD, which is all hits. The dj's and commercials also are very funny and peformed well. Make sure you listed at the end of the last song on each CD for the bonus part with the DJ.
