Editorial Reviews

Review

Praise for Ilario Pantano’s works of military history:
"Pantano's story is a tough, gritty, no-holds-barred saga of war by one who knows what it's like to be caught in a crossfire." (Oliver L. North, Host of War Stories on Fox News Channel and former U.S. Marine)

“The writing is riveting. The timing fortuitous. The message timeless. Pantano has given us more than just a war story. This is an American story.” (Michelle Malkin, New York Times bestselling author)

“Suspenseful and involving…absorbing psychology.” (Booklist)

“Vivid…Compelling… gripping style that carries the reader” (The Weekly Standard)

About the Author

A marine sniper who once faced the death penalty for killing terrorists in Iraq, no one knows the theft of history better than Ilario Pantano. Unlike most so-called culture warriors, Pantano actually has the scars and he “knows what it's like to be caught in a crossfire," said Colonel Oliver North.
MSNBC host Chris Matthews has said Pantano is “a guy who knows what he’s talking about.” Fox’s Sean Hannity told America that Pantano “belongs in Congress,” and Sarah Palin, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Ryan and Allen West have all agreed.
Pantano is a tireless advocate for our nation's veterans. He has raised money for their legal defenses and has provided military commentary on Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC. His numerous articles, profiles and interviews have appeared in American Legion Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Soldier of Fortune, and TIME magazine. Illario Pantano is a real life warrior fighting to defend our culture.

More About the Author

A Marine Sniper who once faced the death penalty for killing terrorists in Iraq, no one knows the theft of history better than Ilario Pantano. He's seen his own story rewritten in front of his eyes while the media lied and twisted facts to drive a political agenda. Unlike most so-called culture warriors, Pantano actually has the scars and "knows what it's like to be caught in a crossfire," according to Colonel Oliver North.

Pantano is not your typical Infantry officer turned history sleuth: He has traded commodities at Goldman Sachs and shared the gospel with hard men facing hard time as a jailhouse chaplain. Pantano is the only author in America to be profiled in both TIME and Soldier of Fortune Magazines and run a marathon faster than Lance Armstrong. An on-the-street witness to the attacks of 9/11, Pantano rejoined the Marines to fight in his second war despite being told he was too old. After a brutal tour of duty in Falluja that led the left-wing press to call him a "Jack Bauer" Republican, Pantano's family received death threats from Al Qaeda.

His first book, Warlord, chronicled the fights which would prepare him to challenge liberals like Chris Matthews over media bias against the military. The MSNBC host was forced to admit Pantano is "a guy who knows what he's talking about." Even Jon Stewart, an avowed Iraq critic, was won over telling his Daily Show audience that Pantano's memoir was "sobering, upsetting, but wonderful to read." Fox's Sean Hannity told America that Pantano "belongs in Congress," and Sen. Tim Scott, Sarah Palin, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Ryan and Allen West all agreed.

By day Pantano is a tireless advocate for our nation's veterans, but for the past six years he has walked battlefields and scoured archives on another mission: restoring the stolen valor of the American Revolution.

Lots of people can talk about culture wars. Ilario Pantano is a real life warrior fighting to defend our culture.

Just finished Grand Theft History. Now I know why it took so long for you to finish the book. The research and detail is amazing and you proved your case that important US History, born in the South, has been stolen. Grand Theft History really opened my eyes to the "South" and its importance to our country - then and now. As a born and raised Oregonian, our education on the South was limited to slavery. While a disappointing part of our countries history, Grand Theft History opened my eyes to the true history of the South and it's importance to our nation - then and now.

Ilario Pantano has crafted an innovative take on the problem of the victors writing the (American) history books. Going back to primary sources, he puts forth a fascinating argument that since the Civil War, the role of Southern military resistance has been purposefully relegated to a relative afterthought by mostly Northern, mostly liberal academics. As a New York transplant and former combat Marine who has embraced the South as his new home, he brings a unique perspective to how important but little-known battles in the South made it possible for America to win its freedom.

"Grand Theft History" should be on the must read list of young through senior, for anyone curious to understand how America arrived at its current status in the Cultural War which is ripping this nation apart.
From the roots of the historical Revolutionary War record, based on primary sources, to present day events a pattern is brilliantly highlighted by Ilario Pantano's spirited writing. This work holds the reader spellbound and in awe of how decades of manipulation of the facts have created today's volatile social climate.

The research by Pantano to write this book is truly remarkable. All politics aside, this is an incredible account of the bravery and sacrifice the south showed during the revolutionary war. As a northerner, I can honestly say that Pantano is correct that these battles have been unjustly wiped from the history books and this is a story I will have my children read while I they are learning early American history. Well done Pantano and I look forward to any future work by him!
